Position Summary:
The Monitor Support Specialist —also known as a Cardiac Monitor Tech or Telemetry Tech—plays a key role in supporting patient care by performing a range of clinical and administrative tasks. Some of these include gathering and documenting patient information, preparing relevant records, and assisting healthcare providers in delivering services. A critical part of the role involves observing telemetry monitors, reporting any dysrhythmias to the registered nurse (RN), and documenting rhythm strips. What the Monitor Support Specialist will need: High school graduation required. Basic EKG class and monitor orientation required. Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations to complete necessary patient record documentation. Current BCLS Certificate. Ability to occasionally lift, carry and/or push or pull up to 20 pounds. What the Monitor Support Specialist will do: Records telemetry strip and reports any abnormalities. Responds to all monitor alarms in a timely manner.
Maintains telemetry monitoring:
admitting patient to arrhythmia monitoring, changing batteries and electrodes, removing for tests and reattaching as necessary, reviewing alarm trends, reporting rhythms and communicating malfunction. Maintains patient information and records and generates reports. Maintains unit supplies, monitoring area and portion of equipment log. Answers telephone and provide customer service regarding telemetry issues. Assists with orientation of other hospital Monitor Techs as requested. Enters charges and assures that the charges entered are consistent with services provided and supported by appropriate documentation.
