Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician will troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and repair a wide range of industrial machinery and facility equipment in a multi-craft role. You will work on motors, 480V electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, blow molding and plastic injection machinery, bearings, bushings, valves, tooling heads, fixtures and blades, dryers, HMIs, and PLCs. This position requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to interpret blueprints and schematics, and a strong commitment to plant safety and lockout/tagout procedures. Responsibilities Analyze and repair manufacturing equipment, including plastic blow molding, injection molding, and auxiliary equipment. Perform both preventative and reactive maintenance on industrial machinery and facility equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, chains, bearings, bushings, valves, tooling heads, fixtures, and blades. Troubleshoot electrical systems including 480V circuits, AC/DC and three-phase motors, and wiring/rewiring of electrical components. Understand and run processes on machines to ensure optimal machine efficiency and uptime. Use root cause analysis to identify, diagnose, and correct recurring machine issues. Interpret and work from electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and mechanical blueprints. Operate, understand, and transfer knowledge of all machinery and equipment to others on the team. Teach and share mechanical and technical knowledge to support the development of other team members. Promote safety by ensuring all electrical and mechanical guards and other safety devices are in place and functioning correctly. Follow and enforce lockout/tagout and plant safety procedures at all times. Promote quality manufacturing by ensuring all required quality testing and inspections are completed accurately and on time. Complete all assigned preventive maintenance tasks and work orders thoroughly and on schedule. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area in accordance with 5S+1 principles. Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to minimize downtime and improve reliability of equipment. Essential Skills 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting skills, including hydraulics and pneumatics. Proficiency in electrical maintenance and troubleshooting up to 480V, including three-phase motors and wiring/rewiring. Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and mechanical blueprints. Knowledge of electrical, electronics, pneumatics, and hydraulics as applied to industrial equipment. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair complex machinery. Ability to operate, understand, and explain the operation of all relevant machinery and equipment. Solid reading, mathematical, and communication skills to follow instructions, document work, and collaborate with the team. Experience with industrial controls and 480V electrical systems. Commitment to safety practices, including proper use of guards, safety devices, and lockout/tagout procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience troubleshooting PLCs. Experience in plastics manufacturing, particularly injection molding or blow molding, is a plus. Trade schooling or technical education in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance is preferred. Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance repair best practices. Familiarity with PLC control systems in a production environment. Welding experience is preferred and considered an asset. Why Work Here? Work Environment The facility operates approximately 15-16 blow mold machines and employs around 140 people, with about 80% of the business focused on custom molds, 15% on cabinets and plastics, and the remainder on metals. This is a multi-shift manufacturing environment with openings on 2nd shift (3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.) and 3rd shift (11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.), each offering a shift premium. You will work around industrial blow molding and injection molding equipment, auxiliary systems, and related machinery, using tools and equipment suited for mechanical and electrical maintenance work. The environment emphasizes safety, proper use of guards and safety devices, and adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, as well as maintaining an organized workspace through 5S+1 practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Sturgis, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
