Maintenance Technician/Painter

Job Summary Maintenance Technician:

To perform basic repair and maintenance of buildings and fixed and moveable equipment and fixtures. Perform some semi-skilled mechanical trades work relating to the installation, operations, maintenance and repair of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing/pipefitting.

Painters:

Evaluate area to be painted and determine type of paint to be used, steps and types of surface preparation, equipment needed and any environmental health procedures required Prepare area and surface to be painted; move furniture and wall fixtures from painting area, cover floor and furniture for protection, set up and work from ladders, scaffolding, and staging Preparation may include filling of holes, cracks, joints, and grains, sandblasting, mechanical chipping or grinding, and burning Apply paints and coatings with brush, roller, spray, squeegee, or appropriate applicator; may apply wallpaper or fabric. Select pre-mixed materials or prepare materials to match specified colors, textures, consistencies, and drying properties by mixing. Make suggestions regarding paint color, quality, cost and plans and procedures Clean area upon completion of painting; return materials and equipment and restore area to original state May paint signs, cut stencils, etch surfaces, mark parking lot lines and curbs May perform or assist with preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports and maintenance of records Perform other duties as assigned Responsibilities, Essential duties include but are not limited to: Perform basic repair and maintenance of buildings including fixed and moveable equipment and fixtures. Perform semi-skilled mechanical trades work relating to the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and plumbing systems fixed and moveable equipment, fixtures and units. Perform semi-skilled building trades work in carpentry, painting, glazing, mason/tuck pointing, plastering, etc. Assist various journey-level staff in the completion of diverse tasks. Notify supervisor when repairs and installation tasks that may require advanced are identified. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements/ Skills Time management Construction knowledge HVAC knowledge plumbing knowledge Experience supervising or leading maintenance teams is preferred. Professional and courteous manner Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships Basic computer skills including the ability to use maintenance software programs

Experience:

Maintenance High school diploma or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Two years of general maintenance experience is required . (Some or all of the two years of experience may be required to be in a specific skill area of concentration; i.e., carpentry, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, etc.) Skill in the maintenance and operation of tools, equipment and materials. Sufficient strength to perform heavy lifting and work on ladders on an occasional basis. A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions. Depending on the nature of work performed, the incumbent may be required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the "Industrial Standard for Respirator Use".

Painters:

A high school diploma or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary Four years actual work experience and training including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training in the trade (e.g. painting and wall covering) is required Depending on the location of the position, some jobs may require two years of journey level experience, including apprentice or vocational training, installing vinyl wall covering Knowledge and skill in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of the trade Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings and plumbing and electrical codes is required Ability on a daily basis to: Grasp various building tools, paint brushes (of all sizes), compressed air gun and aerosol containers Perform repetitive motions with hand equipment items Grasp, lift, carry and set down moderate to heavy objects (25-75 lbs.) Climb and work from ladders, stairs and/or scaffolding Visually evaluate surface of painting project, paint texture and color quality and completion of painting project Depending on nature of work performed, may be required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the "Industrial Standard for Respirator Use" Good physical health and coordination; sufficient strength to perform some heavy lifting and ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and staging.

Maintenance Shift:

Monday-Thursday 7am-5:30pm

Pay Range:

$15.50-$17.80

Painters Shift:

Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm

Pay Range:

$18.00-$22.00 •Mid May to Mid August•

Pay:

$15.50 - $22.00 per hour
