Maintenance Technician II Job Description The Maintenance Technician II supports the operations maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and automated packaging and distribution equipment throughout the facility. This role combines hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems with preventive and predictive maintenance activities, while also mentoring junior technicians and contributing to a strong safety culture. Responsibilities Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and encouraging safe work practices among team members. Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and pneumatic systems, ensuring all work is properly documented. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues related to material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and other components. Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment to support continuous and efficient operations. Use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools to identify and resolve electrical and electronic issues in accordance with established standards. Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to plan and execute maintenance and repair tasks accurately. Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues, recommending solutions, and implementing best practices in equipment maintenance. Maintain positive working relationships across all areas of the operations facility, collaborating effectively with peers, supervisors, and other departments. Track, organize, and store department inventory, ensuring critical spare parts and tools are available when needed. Mentor and support junior technicians by sharing knowledge, demonstrating proper techniques, and helping them develop their technical skills. Perform metal and wood fabrication tasks as needed to support equipment installation, modification, and repair. Move and lift items up to 49 pounds and perform tasks that require standing and walking for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation. Travel between departments, floors, and areas of the property as required, which may involve walking 6 to 12 miles per day to facilitate maintenance activities. Use a computerized system, as applicable, to record maintenance activities, update work orders, and maintain accurate equipment histories. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of experience working with automated conveyor systems and controls. At least 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment. At least 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures. At least 1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication. At least 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics. At least 1 year of knowledge and hands-on experience with electrical and electronic principles. Proficiency using a multimeter for electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience in industrial maintenance environments. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on conveyance and material handling equipment. Capability to move up to 49 pounds and to stand and walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields. At least 2 years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in mechanical or electrical disciplines. Experience applying material handling equipment safety standards in accordance with original equipment manufacturer and safety requirements. Project management experience, including planning, coordinating, and completing maintenance-related projects. Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work order management and maintenance tracking. Experience with robotic operation and maintenance in an industrial or distribution environment. Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions in control systems. Experience with continuous improvement practices in maintenance operations. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a modern operations facility that features automated packaging, distribution, and material handling systems. You will work around conveyor systems, pneumatic equipment, and robotic technologies, using tools such as multimeters and computer-based maintenance systems. Shifts may last up to 12 hours and involve extended periods of standing and walking, often between departments and floors, which can total 6 to 12 miles of movement per day. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, reach above the head, kneel, squat, climb steps and ladders, and regularly crouch and bend at the waist or spine to install or move equipment. You may work at a computer or stand-up desk for 1 to 2 hours per day to document work and manage maintenance records. The environment may include fluctuating temperatures, and tasks may require wearing a mask, face shield, and composite-toed boots as part of the standard dress code and personal protective equipment.
