Maintenance Technician Position Description Position :

Non-ExemptNATURE OF WORK
Maintenance Technicians are expected to work at all school system facilities to ensure that buildings run effectively and safely. The general types of work performed by Maintenance Technicians are carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, general construction, roofing, HVAC, etc. Applicants interested in this type of position must be well-rounded and willing to learn and obtain the necessary credentials per the needs of the school system.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Completes work orders for scheduled maintenance tasks and special projects in regard to carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, general construction, roofing, HVAC, etc. Inspects facilities for needed maintenance or repairs; performs routine maintenance and repair tasks in/on buildings and other locations. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of weight. Must be able to operate heavy equipment (excavators, front loaders, skid steers, etc.) Must be willing and able to be on site during inclement weather days in order to assist with snow/ice removal for the safety of school students and staff. Must be willing to stay late or come in early if emergent needs to the school system arise. Performs other related work as required. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervision.WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires working in both indoor and outdoor settings. This type of position requires that applicants be able to lift, move, bend, climb ladders, etc. At times, Maintenance Technicians are required to interact with staff inside school buildings and in classrooms. Therefore, applicants for this position must have a good rapport with people and have appropriate communication skills for all types of situations. At times, maintenance staff members are in contact with and may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, gases, etc. Therefore, applicants must understand and adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure their own safety and the safety of others. Maintenance Technicians must be able to drive work vans or work trucks safely in order to get to their job sites. Maintenance Technicians typically work in teams of 2 to 4 people. It is necessary that applicants have the ability to be a team player and work effectively within their assigned team.MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Training and/or experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education and local policy on evaluation of personnel.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a Valid NC driver's license and the willingness to obtain a Class B Commercial drivers license.DISCLAIMER
