Position Goal:
The Maintenance technician is responsible for supporting the Facilities Manager by ensuring the maintenance, repair, safety, and security of all school district buildings and grounds. This role includes performing hands-on maintenance tasks, overseeing contractors and vendors, managing supplies and inventories, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Servers, computers, keyboards, printers, phone, Promethean boards, standard office Equipment, tools such as hand tools, power tools, HVAC equipment, and more.
Education, Training, Skills, Experience, & Licensure Requirements:
. 2 years of hands-on experience in facilities and building trades or 2 years of military training in a related field is preferred skills in the use of hand tools and power tools. knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) and facility management software. knowledge and experience of heating boilers, air conditioning systems, electrical systems, building and grounds maintenance and equipment repair. Ability to read blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs, and to troubleshoot using electronic resources. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent time management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Professional attitude with a goal-oriented mindset to drive success and lead by example. Familiarity with building safety, fire codes, building codes, and asbestos regulations. Knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry repair techniques. Experience with email, spreadsheets, and basic office equipment. Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. RESPONSIBILITIES
Facility Operation Perform routine and emergency maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, HVAC, painting, and basic repairs of floors, roofs, doors, locks, and furniture. Utilize tools and technology such as hand tools, power tools, HVAC equipment, and more to troubleshoot and repair facility issues. Assist with snow removal, grounds work, and general building maintenance. Maintain shop cleanliness and ensure tools and equipment are clean, functional, and properly inventoried. Ensure timely completion of all work orders and track preventive maintenance schedules. Supervise maintenance teams during projects or school breaks and complete both large and small-scale projects by their assigned deadlines. Manage the daily operations of all school buildings and grounds, including maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness. Assist in the coordination of preventive maintenance programs and ensure timely response to repair requests from district staff. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, develops alternative solutions, and responds promptly to district facility needs. Possesses detailed knowledge of the services and repairs of all machinery and equipment located in the Newport School District. Assist when needed or short staffed Safety & Compliance Ensure all buildings follow local and state building, safety, and fire codes. Prepare for and assist in Department of Education and Department of Labor inspections. Ensure the safety of all tools, equipment, and materials, and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous substances. Follows safety protocols during maintenance and repair operations for efficient and safe workflows. Work with Facility Manager to conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments across all facilities. Possesses understanding of various Federal, State and local codes and regulations involving construction, installation, fire, safety and sanitation. Follows safety and security procedures; uses equipment and materials properly. Budget & Planning Assist in the preparation of maintenance budgets by providing input on supply needs, equipment replacements, and necessary repairs. Obtain quotes for repairs, projects, and supplies across all buildings to ensure cost-effective solutions. Support the Facility Manager in long-term maintenance planning and the development of preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of district facilities and equipment.
Contractor and Vendor Management:
Assist in overseeing the work of contractors and vendors to ensure it meets district standards. Coordinate with outside contractors for specialized repairs and projects, providing oversight to ensure quality and timely completion. Obtain bids and quotes from vendors for projects and maintenance work in accordance with district policies. Energy Management Monitor and assist in maintaining energy systems including HVAC units, electrical systems, and lighting to ensure efficient energy use. Work with the Facility Manager to explore opportunities for energy savings and sustainability initiatives within district facilities. Transportation Coordination Oversee the maintenance and safety of district-owned vehicles, ensuring transportation equipment is regularly inspected and compliant with regulations. Not vehicles under the transportation department. Interpersonal skills Collaborate effectively with school staff, custodians, and external vendors to ensure smooth facility operations. Communicate maintenance needs, project updates, and safety concerns to the Facility Manager and other stakeholders in a timely manner. Display strong organizational and time management skills, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively. Possesses good human relation skills and is able to communicate well with others both verbally, in writing and by email. Approaches others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status and position; accepts responsibility for their own actions; follows through on commitments. Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Ability to set priorities and make appropriate decisions on repairs or assignments contingent upon availability of parts and manpower. Atbility to perform duties both outside and inside in varying conditions including extreme heat, ereme cold and wet and/or humid, etc. Demonstrate professionalism, a positive attitude, and goal-oriented behavior to set a strong example for others. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
