Escuela del Sol Montessori (Escuela) is the first fully accredited Montessori school in New Mexico, with approximately 170 enrolled students from preschool through Jr. High. In addition to the Montessori school, the Escuela organization also runs Harwood Art Center, a public art center rooted in the belief that art builds and sustains community. We're seeking a hands-on General Maintenance Technician to support daily operations across Escuela del Sol Montessori and Harwood Art Center Campus. You'll complete routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and a wide range of repairs that keep our learning and community environments running smoothly. What You'll Do Keep facilities running reliably through routine inspections and preventive maintenance (lighting, doors/locks, fixtures, HVAC support, classrooms, common areas). Respond to maintenance requests quickly and professionally; communicate status and resolution clearly to staff. Perform general repairs including basic plumbing (clogs/leaks/fixtures), carpentry (hardware/doors/furniture), patch/paint and minor building repairs. Support HVAC operations with basic troubleshooting and maintenance; escalate complex issues to licensed vendors when needed. Maintain safe outdoor areas including playground checks and seasonal site upkeep (snow/ice mitigation, leaf removal, gutter clearing). Assist with event setup/breakdown (tables/chairs and basic operational support as assigned). Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs/inspections; help verify work quality and close out service needs. Maintain records and supplies (work performed, parts used, inventory levels; support purchasing requests as assigned). Follow safety and school protocols while working in occupied environments with children, staff, and artists present. What You'll Bring Required High school diploma or GED (vocational/technical training preferred) 5+ years of building maintenance or related facilities/trades experience Working knowledge of general maintenance including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC/boiler support Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working independently across multiple buildings Service-oriented communication and professional judgment in a student-centered setting Valid driver's license and reliable transportation between sites Ability to pass required background screening and comply with child-safety policies Ability to lift up to 50 lbs , climb ladders, and work indoors/outdoors in varied conditions Preferred Experience in schools, childcare, arts, or other public-facing occupied facilities Trade certifications/licensure (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) or relevant training Bilingual English/Spanish What We Offer A mission-driven workplace supporting students, educators, and community programs Consistent weekday schedule with meaningful, hands-on work Collaborative environment with clear priorities and direct impact
Compensation:
