Job Description

Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Mechanic 183 Saltonstall Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 From $31.31 an hour - Full-time From $31.31 an hour - Full-time The work involves responsibility for the overhaul, repair, testing and maintenance of a wide variety of wastewater treatment plant equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for personally performing the more technical and skilled maintenance duties and for leading and participating in the performance of less skilled activities. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Sewage Treatment Plant Operator, Type B, who schedules and prioritizes assignments and inspects the work performed. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
(Illustrative only) Personally performs or leads and participates in the performance of complex and difficult skilled maintenance and repairs to pumps, valves, chlorinators, chemical feed and mixing machines and other wastewater treatment plant equipment; Performs complex preventative maintenance work including cleaning of screens, stroking and lubricating filter valve shafts, greasing and oiling motors and inspecting for and replacing work parts; Leads in the performance of plant repairs involving semi-skilled plumbing, carpentry, electrical and related maintenance work; Leads and participates in the repair and maintenance of pumping stations and reservoir equipment; Repairs and performs the more difficult preventative maintenance work; May operate sludge truck from treatment plant to landfill; May assist in the formal training of personnel who participate in plant operation, maintenance and repair; Maintains records and reports of work performed, time expended and materials used for Chief Sewage Treatment Plant Operator, Type
B. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of large scale hydraulic, mechanical and electrical equipment; ability to make skilled repairs to a variety of wastewater treatment plant machinery and equipment; skill in the operation of manual and power tools; ability to instruct; ability to work from plans and sketches; mechanical aptitude; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
