Every year, the organization supports more than 2,000 people across 31 locations in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. From preschool to graduation, employment, housing, and beyond, Birch Family Services provides fully integrated programs and services to support individuals in achieving their goals across their lifetime. As the maintenance worker, you are responsible for maintaining a system of 2 to 3 community residences in Brooklyn, NYC housing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Duties may include the repair of fixtures & equipment; the performance of routine maintenance; performing general cleaning and heavy-duty cleaning duties; notifying management of needs for repairs; and snow & debris removal from walkways, sidewalks and driveways.

Brooklyn Responsibilities:
Troubleshoots minor maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repair or replacement. Performs preventive building maintenance duties (i.e., caulks windows & doors, repairs/replaces broken windows, etc.). Performs routine plumbing repairs (i.e., unstopping toilets & sinks, fixing water leaks & leaking faucets, etc.). Performs routine minor electrical repairs (i.e., changing light bulbs; replacing ballasts & light fixtures, etc.). Maintenance assignments will include travel to & from various Birch facilities and supply stores (i.e., Home Depot, Lowes, etc.). Purchases supplies, equipment and materials necessary to complete projects. Assembles and moves furniture, hangs pictures and bulletin boards, moves and sets up tables & chairs, etc.). Steam cleans & shampoos carpets; strips, seals and polishes floors Repairs and replaces door knobs or locks, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls. Paints interior and exterior surfaces. Ensures that all hazardous conditions are addressed in a timely manner (i.e., snow removal; gathering and removing trash from the premises; debris removal, etc.). Performs other duties as required. Ensure all hazardous conditions are reported and repaired on a timely basis. Move furniture, deliveries, packages and other large items as required. Promptly communicate any facilities or maintenance issues with the building administrator or designee. Attend to all weather-related tasks including, but not limited to, managing walk-off mats, snow removal, spreading ice melt on sidewalks, etc. Ability to travel within New York City. Perform other duties as required by management team
Qualifications Qualifications:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Two or more years of experience working in a construction site, handyman role for residential program and or related field. Maintenance experience in a residential, health or treatment related setting preferred. New York State Driver's License strongly preferred Ability to learn phone app based WorxHub system
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to speak clearly and hear the spoken word well. Regularly required to utilize near vision ability to read documents Regularly required to perform physical maintenance tasks, including operating cleaning and repair equipment, tools, and ladders. Ability to apply proper lifting techniques.
