Job Description

The Southampton Union Free School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Mechanic III - Plumber. This position is responsible for performing skilled plumbing repairs, maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation work in District buildings and facilities. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining safe and efficient building operations while supporting preventative maintenance and capital improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Performs skilled plumbing repairs and maintenance of piping, fixtures, pumps, water heaters, and related systems. Installs, repairs, and replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, faucets, valves, and piping. Diagnoses and repairs leaks, clogged drains, and other plumbing system issues. Inspects facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. Performs preventative maintenance on plumbing systems and related building equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and work orders. Assists with maintenance and repair of mechanical, HVAC, and building systems as needed. Coordinates work with contractors, vendors, and inspectors on plumbing-related projects. Maintains records of work performed, materials used, and maintenance schedules. Responds to emergency maintenance situations during and after normal working hours as required. Operates hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards. Assists in planning and estimating maintenance and repair projects. Performs related work as required. Job Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. Considerable experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair work. Working knowledge of building maintenance practices and related trades. Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, and technical documents. Ability to work independently and respond effectively to emergency situations. Plumbing license preferred.
