Maintenance TechnicianLocation:
Akron, OHPay:
$30-45 per hour DOEPosition OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment in a manufacturing environment. The role focuses on ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe, compliant operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of electrical, controls, and mechanical skillsexperience with PLCs, VFDs, 480V systems, conveyors, palletizers and packaging equipment is highly desired. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety procedures is required.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on production machinery including conveyors, palletizers, packaging equipment and ancillary systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical and control systems: PLCs (Allen-Bradley experience preferred), HMIs, VFDs, 480V and low-voltage circuits, and related control panels.
Program, diagnose and support PLC and HMI systems, including ladder logic troubleshooting, I/O checks and communication issues.
Maintain and repair mechanical systems such as pumps, valves, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, and packaging mechanisms.
Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting valves, cylinders and hose/line issues.
Perform welding and fabrication for machine repairs and modifications as required.
Support installation, commissioning and start-up of new equipment and process improvements; assist engineering with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, complete work orders, and update preventive maintenance schedules using CMMS or similar systems.
Adhere to safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and PPE requirements; promote GMP and quality standards on the production floor.
Stock and organize spare parts, order replacement components and support inventory management for critical items.
Provide technical support to production during line changeovers and troubleshoot production quality or throughput issues.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment uptime, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).Qualifications3+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment; experience with packaging lines and palletizers strongly preferred.
Proven experience with controls and automation: Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and basic ladder logic troubleshooting.
Strong electrical skills up to 480V and low-voltage control circuits; ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Mechanical aptitude with experience on pumps, valves, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings and general machine components.
Experience with hydraulics and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and component replacement.
Welding and basic fabrication skills (MIG/TIG/Stick or equivalent) for equipment repairs.
Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety regulations, lockout/tagout and PPE usage.
Proficient troubleshooting skills, ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
