About this Position In coordination with the Manager of CEAT Facilities Services, the Building Maintenance Mechanic provides all aspects of facilities support for research laboratories for the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT). Serves as CEAT facility operation liaison. Identifies facility and facility systems discrepancies and facilitates corrective action. Assists and provides instructions to student assistants in general carpentry, electrical and mechanical skills as needed to maintain CEAT facilities. Conducts maintenance for lab equipment, instrumentation, and materials. Ensures building systems provide adequate support for research. Facilitates implementation and adherence to safety policies, procedures and practices. Coordinates hazardous materials/surplus waste acquisition, storage, and disposal. Advises faculty/staff on safe packaging, usage, storage and disposal of all hazardous materials. Coordinates regular inspection and maintenance of hazardous materials equipment. Will come in contact with laboratory chemicals and gases. Must have ability to lift, reach, place and remove objects, equipment, instrumentation and supplies weighting up to 100 pounds. Must be able to climb ladders, racks, equipment and other tall objects for purposes of inspection, repair, maintenance, or alteration. Required Qualifications High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date) BMM II - High School/GED with three years of prior successful work experience in the building trade or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field, plus one year of prior successful work experience in a building trade. Post-secondary education may substitute for years of experience. Certifications, Registrations, and/or
Licenses:
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. Skills, Proficiencies, and/or
Knowledge:
Skilled in mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment construction, design, and repair. Trained in hazardous materials policies/procedures and have or be able to develop a good working relation with the campus Environmental Health and Safety Department as well as all the CEAT departmental lab/safety managers and lab specialists. Must have good understanding of laboratory operations and support systems and building systems. Must be experienced forklift operator. Must be able to move unassisted about the campus and in Stillwater. Must be able to climb ladders, racks, equipment and other tall object for purposes of inspection, repair, maintenance, or alteration. Must be able to detect the range of odors characteristic of machine shop, chemical lab, or equipment environments. Experience and skill in reading and recording data from gages, instruments, indicators, computers and other devices. Experience and skill in PC computer operations. Must have excellent interpersonal skills while working with students, faculty, staff, multiple university offices and the public. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Mechanical & Electrical Technology or related field Basic carpentry skills: painting, drywall repair, carpet and tile removal and installation. Basic electrical skills and experience with electrical systems HVAC maintenance experience Basic plumbing skills Autoclave maintenance experience Blueprint reading Controls and electrical schematic reading Basic electrical, plumbing as well as Autoclave maintenance experience.
