Job Title:
Maintenance Mechanic III Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic III is a high level role responsible for installing, modifying, designing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment and machinery in a manufacturing environment. Working under minimal supervision, this position takes a lead role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of production equipment, facilities systems, and building infrastructure, including pneumatic, electrical, vacuum, furnace, and HVAC systems. The role combines hands-on mechanical, electrical, and PLC/controls work with leadership responsibilities in guiding other maintenance mechanics and supporting continuous, safe production operations. Responsibilities Lead the diagnosis and repair of assigned department equipment with minimal supervision, working independently or as part of a team. Perform installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment and machinery used in manufacturing and building operations. Support the operation and maintenance of production equipment and facilities systems, including equipment used in production processes and systems that ensure building functionality and safety. Use mechanical, electrical, and PLC/controls skills to perform routine and complex tasks that maintain the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment. Act as a point of contact for junior maintenance mechanics, helping to keep them on task and directing work activities based on assigned task lists. Identify, implement, and exercise independent judgment within established guidelines when performing preventive maintenance and responding to on-shift issues affecting production operations or facility safety. Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshoot furnace operations using Siemens PLC hardware and software to diagnose and resolve process and equipment issues. Use a digital multimeter and other test equipment to troubleshoot electrical systems, including three-phase power at 480V. Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to install, repair, rebuild, and service equipment. Support facility maintenance activities, including light work on buildings and grounds to maintain functionality and safety. Collaborate effectively with production and maintenance team members to prioritize tasks and respond to changing operational needs. Observe, analyze, and interpret mechanical and electrical issues, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Maintain accurate communication in English, both verbally and in writing, to document work performed and coordinate with colleagues. Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a manufacturing or production environment in a technical role, maintaining pneumatic, electrical, vacuum, or mechanical systems. For Level III, at least 7 years of advancing technical experience as a mechanic or electrical/controls/electronics/automation technician in a manufacturing environment, with technical school training creditable toward experience. Proven experience troubleshooting and repairing semi-automated or fully automated equipment. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve issues with mechanical and electrical equipment and machinery. Knowledge and hands-on experience troubleshooting production equipment using Siemens PLC hardware and software. Ability to fully utilize a digital multimeter (DMM) for electrical troubleshooting, including work with three-phase, 480V systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with maintenance, repair, and rebuild of industrial equipment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and oral form. Ability to observe, analyze, and interpret technical situations and solve problems independently within established guidelines. Ability to prioritize changing tasks and duties in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across the organization. Some technical training or coursework in industrial equipment engineering, industrial maintenance, or industrial electronics/controls/automation from a technical school or equivalent trade experience is highly desired. Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and knowledge may substitute for up to 3 years of manufacturing or production technical experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) programs in an industrial setting. Hands-on experience with furnace, vacuum, and HVAC systems in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with facility maintenance, including building systems and grounds support. Comfort working with 3-phase electrical systems, including 480V power. Experience using multimeters, volt meters, and related diagnostic tools. Experience in mechanical or electrical roles such as technician, mechanic, or service technician in industrial environments. Experience working in structured, process-driven environments, including potential experience from technical military roles. Technical school certificate or diploma in industrial maintenance, industrial electronics, controls, or automation is a strong plus. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a team. Willingness to perform other duties as assigned in support of production and facility operations. Why Work Here? The role involves working around active production lines and facility systems, with an emphasis on safety and equipment reliability. Multiple shifts are available, including day shift training from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., a swing shift from Monday to Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and a graveyard shift from 7:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., Monday to Friday (with the last shift ending Saturday morning). The environment requires comfort working in a hands-on, industrial setting with tools, test equipment, and machinery, and adherence to all plant safety practices and procedures. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
