Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and optimizing high-speed packaging equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Technician performs both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on complex packaging lines, supports preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and ensures safe and reliable operation of production equipment. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair high-speed packaging equipment, including bottle and can fillers, can seamers and roll-through seamers, labelers, date coders, and inspection systems. Troubleshoot and repair depalletizers, rinsers, packers, palletizers, conveyors, motors, photo eyes, stop gates, sensors, and diverters to minimize downtime. Perform detailed mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on packaging line components such as bearings, belts, gearboxes, couplings, chain drives, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and servo systems. Inspect, maintain, and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, manifolds, and lubrication systems, to ensure consistent equipment performance. Investigate process and product nonconformances through root cause analysis, addressing issues such as loose or double seams, fill volume variations, container pressure problems, label and date code application defects, and line jams or accumulation. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and piping diagrams to support equipment checks, changeovers, and major overhauls. Support and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for packaging assets to improve reliability and extend equipment life. Work safely around conveyors, rotating machinery, high-voltage systems (480V), confined spaces, and elevated work platforms, following all safety procedures and guidelines. Safely operate forklifts and aerial lift equipment as needed to perform maintenance tasks. Collaborate with production and quality teams to minimize equipment-related downtime and improve line efficiency. Document maintenance activities, findings, and repairs to support continuous improvement and future troubleshooting. Essential Skills Proven experience in high-speed manufacturing Hands-on packaging line maintenance experience, specifically on production equipment rather than building maintenance, HVAC, or facilities-only work. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair fillers, seamers, labelers, packers, and palletizers. Experience diagnosing and resolving issues with sensors, photo-eyes, and limit switches. Proficiency with variable frequency drives (VFDs), including troubleshooting and adjustment. Experience working with PLC I/O and responding to HMI alarms during equipment troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of mechanical power transmission systems, including belts, chains, gearboxes, couplings, and related components. Solid understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems used in packaging equipment. Awareness of
NFPA 70E
electrical safety principles and safe work practices around high-voltage equipment. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and piping diagrams. Capability to work safely with conveyors, rotating machinery, high-voltage (480V) systems, confined spaces, and elevated platforms. Skill in operating forklifts and aerial lift equipment safely and effectively. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with high-speed packaging equipment such as bottle and can fillers, can seamers, labelers, date coders, inspection systems, depalletizers, rinsers, packers, and palletizers. Familiarity with troubleshooting line issues related to loose seams, double seams, fill volume, container pressure, and label or date code application. Exposure to predictive and preventive maintenance programs within a manufacturing environment. Comfort working with HMI interfaces to monitor alarms and support troubleshooting activities. Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions. Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams in production and quality. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, high-volume production setting with changing priorities.
