Maintenance Mechanic I Souderton, PA 1 DAYS AGO 22484313 Summary Souderton, PA In-Person Competitive Salary 1 Years Experience High school graduate or equivalency certificate (GED) No Commission 40.00 hours per week / Day Shift / Full-Time Description Leidy's Premium Meats is hiring an entry-level to early-career Maintenance Mechanic to perform basic mechanical, electrical, and preventative maintenance tasks to support production equipment in a meat processing facility. The Maintenance Mechanic ensures equipment runs safely, reliably, and efficiently while following all food safety, USDA, and safety standards. The role works under the direction of senior mechanics, supervisors, or the Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical certificate preferred.
  • 0-2 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, food processing, or industrial setting.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools, fasteners, and repair methods.
  • Ability to learn electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read basic diagrams, manuals, or instructions.
  • Comfortable working in cold environments (35-45°F / 1-7°C).
Responsibilities:
  • Perform basic mechanical repairs on production equipment such as conveyors, grinders, slicers, saws, packagers, scales, and labeling machines.
  • Assist senior mechanics with more complex repairs, troubleshooting, and rebuilds.
  • Replace belts, bearings, chains, sprockets, motors, sensors, and other common components as instructed.
  • Complete routine lubrication, adjustments, and minor alignment tasks.
  • Carry out scheduled PM tasks according to the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Inspect equipment for wear, leaks, unusual noises, or potential failures.
  • Document completed work accurately and fully within the maintenance system.
  • Help improve PM procedures by reporting equipment conditions or needed updates.
  • Follow all safety policies including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), machine guarding, and PPE requirements.
  • Ensure all work supports USDA/FSIS, HACCP, SSOP, and GMP guidelines.
  • Use only approved food-grade lubricants and materials in food-contact areas.
  • Keep tools, parts, and work areas clean to prevent contamination in production zones.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair needs clearly to operators and supervisors.
  • Assist with line changeovers, setup, and adjustments during production as needed.
  • Perform basic plumbing, pipefitting, and electrical work under supervision.
  • Assist with facility maintenance such as lighting, doors, drains, and general plant repairs.
  • Support cold-room, cooler, and freezer maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Work closely with senior mechanics to learn equipment-specific skills.
  • Participate in maintenance training programs, safety training, and skill development.
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude and strong work ethic.
