Job Title:
Maintenance Technician - 1st & 3rd Shift Job Description This Maintenance Technician role supports 1st and 3rd shift manufacturing operations in Morristown, TN by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production machinery, equipment, and facility systems. You will work across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and robotic systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production. The position includes preventive maintenance, equipment upgrades, and occasional overtime every other Saturday to support operational needs. Responsibilities Follow all safety rules and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, and consistently promote a safe work environment. Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production machinery, equipment, and facility systems to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operation. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems according to established schedules and documentation. Commission and decommission equipment as needed, ensuring proper setup, testing, and documentation. Support equipment upgrades, improvements, and modifications to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety. Use test equipment and diagnostic tools to identify malfunctions and determine root causes of equipment issues. Collaborate closely with machine operators and production staff to understand issues, communicate repair status, and verify proper equipment operation. Maintain and repair piping systems, machining equipment, presses, furnaces, and welding/fabrication equipment. Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings, blueprints, and schematics to perform accurate repairs and installations. Troubleshoot and update PLC systems to resolve control issues and support equipment functionality. Maintain and repair ABB robots, ensuring proper operation and integration with production processes. Operate forklifts, manlifts, and cranes safely to move equipment, parts, and materials as required. Perform stick and wire welding and use cutting torches to fabricate, modify, or repair components and structures. Operate manual mills, lathes, and other shop equipment to machine parts and support maintenance activities. Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and self-motivation while handling assigned tasks and responding to unplanned maintenance needs. Take initiative to perform additional duties as needed to support production, maintenance projects, and continuous improvement. Exercise authority to shut down any process where safety is a concern and coordinate with leadership to plan and execute equipment shutdowns for repairs. Document maintenance activities accurately and communicate equipment status, issues, and completed work to appropriate team members. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in repair and maintenance of industrial machinery and equipment. Proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, blueprints, manuals, and mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings. Demonstrated skill in PLC troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve control system issues. Experience maintaining and repairing ABB robots or similar industrial robotic systems. Ability to operate forklifts, manlifts, and cranes safely in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in stick and wire welding and use of cutting torches for fabrication and repair tasks. Ability to operate manual mills, lathes, and other shop equipment to support maintenance and repair work. Strong math and problem-solving skills to analyze issues, calculate measurements, and determine effective solutions. Ability to follow written, oral, and diagram-based instructions accurately and efficiently. Effective communication skills to clearly report equipment status, issues, and repair progress to team members and leadership. Physical ability to frequently stand, walk, handle tools, and reach during the shift. Ability to occasionally climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access equipment and perform repairs. Capability to lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance. Visual ability to perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. High school diploma or GED. Maintenance certification and/or at least 2 years of industrial maintenance experience, or a two-year technical degree/certification with at least 1 year of industrial maintenance experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications PLC programming experience to support control system modifications and enhancements. Experience in CNC equipment repair, including troubleshooting and maintaining CNC machinery. Heat-treat furnace troubleshooting experience, including diagnosing and correcting furnace-related issues. In-Depth Experience in machining maintenance, which is considered a significant plus. Experience working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heavy industrial equipment. Comfort working independently on a shift and taking ownership of assigned areas and equipment. Flexibility to work 1st or 3rd shift and to support temporary overtime every other Saturday as needed. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility in Morristown, TN, supporting both 1st and 3rd shift operations. The plant is non-climate controlled, so temperatures can vary with the seasons. You will frequently work around moving mechanical parts and industrial production equipment, with occasional work at heights, outdoors, or in humid or wet conditions. The role involves exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical hazards, with moderate noise levels typical of a production environment. You will regularly stand, walk, handle tools, and reach throughout the shift, and occasionally climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access equipment. The position includes a temporary requirement to work every other Saturday for overtime, and you will use industrial tools and equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, cranes, welding equipment, cutting torches, manual mills, lathes, and diagnostic instruments as part of your daily work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Morristown, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
