)•( 2601242 ) Position Information Do you like to work outside? Are you self-motivated? Are you looking to grow and/or obtain additional skills in highway maintenance work? TxDOT's Austin District is looking for one Roadway Maintenance Tech (General Transportation Tech) I, II, or III, based out of our Fredericksburg Maintenance Office. This position will perform routine work related to transportation activities such as construction inspection, routine and contract maintenance inspection, bridge inspection and record keeping, roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control, assisting the public during emergency situations, and training other employees. Recruitment Bonus Available! You may qualify for a one-time recruitment bonus up to $5000 if you have a Class "A" CDL License (preferably with no transmission restrictions) at time of hire. You must maintain 12-months of continuous employment with TxDOT and meet all other conditions. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
The essential duties for the General Transportation Tech I include: Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices. Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards. Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations. Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush. Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Additional duties for General Transportation Tech II include: Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems. Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications. Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station. Additional duties for General Transportation Tech III include: Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications. Trains other employees.

Roadway Maintenance Tech I (GTT I) = No experience required Roadway Maintenance Tech II (GTT II) = 1 year experience• Roadway Maintenance Tech III (GTT III) = 2 years experience•Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications .
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver's license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License within 12 months from date of employment.

US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class "A" CDL within 120 days of employment (or whatever number of days deemed appropriate, I.e., 30, or 60 days). Military Skills Test Waiver.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
