Job Title:
Floor Technician Job Description The Floor Technician maintains clean, safe, and well-presented floors and common areas across a university campus. This role focuses on floor care in common areas, restrooms, facilities, and dining halls while providing friendly, professional customer service to students, staff, and alumni. Responsibilities Perform floor care duties in common areas, restrooms, facilities, and dining halls throughout the university campus. Clean, mop, scrub, buff, and maintain a variety of flooring surfaces using appropriate techniques and equipment. Operate floor care machines such as scrubbers and other flooring equipment safely and efficiently. Use cleaning chemicals and supplies as provided, following all safety and usage guidelines. Sanitize and maintain high standards of cleanliness in all assigned areas. Respond to cleaning requests and address spills or hazards promptly to maintain a safe environment. Deliver courteous and professional customer service when interacting with students, staff, alumni, and visitors. Follow established safety procedures and guidelines for handling chemicals, equipment, and cleaning tasks. Work collaboratively with the environmental services and custodial team to complete daily and periodic cleaning tasks. Maintain housekeeping and custodial standards in line with hospitality-level service expectations. Essential Skills Previous experience as a floor care technician or in a related janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or environmental services role preferred, with 2-4 years or more of experience ideal. Proven knowledge of floor care equipment and techniques, including buffing, scrubbing, and general floor maintenance. Ability to operate flooring machines such as scrubbers and other floor care equipment safely and effectively. Knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures, especially when using cleaning chemicals and equipment. Strong customer service skills and professional presence when interacting with students, staff, and alumni. Experience in janitorial, housekeeping, custodial, cleaning, or environmental services environments. Ability to perform sanitizing and detailed cleaning tasks consistently and to a high standard. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in hospitality or environmental services is beneficial. Experience working in high-traffic facilities such as schools, universities, or similar public environments. Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is onsite at a university campus, working a 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. shift. The work involves using floor care machines, scrubbers, and a variety of cleaning chemicals and supplies in common areas, restrooms, facilities, and dining halls. The environment is active and customer-facing, with regular interaction with students, staff, and alumni while performing cleaning and floor care tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
