Job Description

The Boat Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and operations work to support District marine and boating programs. Duties include inspection, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of small watercraft, related equipment, and supports facilities. This position ensures boats and equipment are safe, functional, properly maintained, and available for public use in accordance with District standards, safety practices, and operational procedures.1. Participate in planning, scheduling, and implementation of marine maintenance activities and work orders 2. Inspect, maintain, clean, and repair District-owned small watercraft including sailing dinghies, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and support powerboats 3. Ensure routine and preventative maintenance on hulls, decks, cockpits, sails, rigging, and related hardware is completed 4. Inspect and replace worn or damaged components such as rudders, tillers, tiller extensions, rubber universal joints, spars, control lines, and fittings 5. Perform basic sail maintenance and repair 6. Conduct minor repair and maintenance of transport equipment including dollies, racks, and storage systems 7. Clean and maintain boats, equipment, and facilities to District cleanliness and safety standards 8. Inspect powerboat hulls and cockpits and perform post-use engine flushing in accordance with procedures; engine servicing is not required 9. Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and workspaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition 10. Assist with inventory control, inspections, and reporting on condition of boats, gear, tools, and supplies 11. Follow established safety practices and procedures; identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions 12. Maintain basic records related to maintenance activities and inspections 13. Attend meetings, trainings, or workshops as assigned 14. Other duties as assigned
  • Equivalent of one + years of experience in facilities maintenance, marine operations, small-craft maintenance, or a related field
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with hand and power tools and routine maintenance practices
  • Requires valid Washington State driver's license or ability to obtain oneRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to learn and follow District maintenance programs, policies, procedures, and safety practices
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and repair tasks using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public
  • Ability to organize work, manage time effectively, and prioritize assigned tasks
  • Ability to work safely in a marine and outdoor environment
