Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining production and facility equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role applies mechanical theory and related technical knowledge to test, modify, and improve manufacturing machinery and equipment, with a strong focus on preventive maintenance and continuous improvement. Responsibilities Perform regular preventive maintenance on production machines, facility equipment, and plant systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues on manufacturing machinery and facility equipment. Inspect, set up, and adjust machine rolls, including embossing and die rolls, to support quality production. Check and review work orders, prioritize tasks appropriately, and complete assigned work in a timely and accurate manner. Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose root causes, and perform high-quality repairs to restore safe and reliable operation. Apply mechanical theory and related technical knowledge to test, modify, and improve manufacturing machinery and equipment performance. Develop and implement process capability changes to improve product quality, reduce scrap, and increase productivity. Perform basic electrical preventive maintenance checks, including inspection of wiring, connections, and related components. Participate actively in promoting job safety and support the development and implementation of plant safety goals, policies, and procedures. Demonstrate high standards of housekeeping by maintaining clean and organized work areas and equipment. Participate in the management and maintenance of the parts inventory system, including researching and identifying required parts. Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions taken, irregularities observed, and ongoing needs. Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, tow motors, tractors, and other facility vehicles safely and in accordance with site procedures. Participate in cross-functional project groups to support equipment upgrades, process improvements, and facility initiatives. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing machinery and equipment. Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on production machines, plant equipment, and facility systems. Experience with electrical troubleshooting at a basic level, including wiring, electrical repairs, and preventive checks. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation. Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to PLC-controlled equipment at a basic level. Capability to inspect, set up, and adjust machine rolls, including embossing and die rolls. Strong commitment to safety and adherence to plant safety policies, procedures, and goals. Ability to prioritize work orders and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced production environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills to document work performed and communicate with team members. Ability to operate forklifts, aerial lifts, tow motors, tractors, and similar facility vehicles safely. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment. Background in continuous improvement, with a focus on improving quality, reducing scrap, and increasing productivity. Familiarity with parts inventory systems and the ability to research and identify appropriate replacement parts. Experience participating in cross-functional project teams within a plant or production environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in documentation and housekeeping. Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance, production, and other support teams. Work Environment The role is based in a manufacturing plant environment that is clean, hot in the summer, and cooler in the winter. Noise levels are moderate but can become loud when all equipment is running. The position involves working around running machinery and production lines, operating forklifts, aerial lifts, tow motors, tractors, and other facility vehicles, and moving throughout the facility to perform maintenance tasks. Proper safety practices, personal protective equipment, and adherence to plant procedures are essential. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Appleton, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
