Position Summary The CCTV Backman / Laborer supports sewer and underground utility inspection operations by working directly alongside the CCTV inspection crew. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient job site, preparing and staging equipment, supporting inspections, and ensuring all tools and systems remain operational and inspection-ready. The Backman serves as a key field support role that helps deliver accurate inspections while maintaining high standards of safety, productivity, and equipment care. Previous CCTV inspection experience is preferred. Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Inspection & Maintenance Conduct daily inspections of CCTV trucks and all mounted equipment. Inspect cameras, cable reels, rods, measuring tools, safety gear, and related equipment to ensure safe operation. Perform routine preventative maintenance to keep equipment clean and functioning properly. Report equipment issues promptly and coordinate repair or replacement efforts to minimize downtime. Perform basic troubleshooting and minor field repairs when appropriate. Job Site Preparation & Field Operations Travel to assigned work sites and prepare locations for inspection activities. Locate starting and reference manholes. Establish traffic control and maintain safe work zones using cones, signage, and barriers. Open manholes and assess site conditions and safety requirements. Measure pipe dimensions, depths, and inspection distances. Stage and organize tools and equipment for efficient operations. Transport cameras and inspection equipment to and from access points. Install, monitor, and remove drain plugs and bypass pumping systems as required. Operate and assist with lowering and retrieving CCTV cameras. Remove debris and maintain clear access points during inspections. Crew Support & Coordination Work collaboratively with crew members to complete projects safely and efficiently. Support scheduling priorities and resolve field challenges impacting production, quality, or safety. Maintain communication using radios and field coordination tools. Assist in training team members by demonstrating best practices and sharing knowledge. Equipment Operation Ability to safely operate and support: Mainline and lateral CCTV camera systems Crawlers, rods, and cable systems Cable wheel drive and braking systems Air compressors Drainage plugs Bypass pumping equipment Measuring devices including tape measures, wheels, and distance recording tools Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds . Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work around underground utility access points. Experience working around traffic control and active job sites preferred. Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Pay:
$17.00 - $21.00 per hour
