Full Job Description TITLE:
Security and Telecommunications Technician
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The primary responsibility shall be to evaluate, maintain and recommend technology associated with low voltage infrastructure and systems, including data, telecommunications, safety cameras, PA speakers, bell, and emergency systems. Monitor, service, debug, add, and move, change low voltage equipment associated with data, and security common voltage systems. Prepare capital plans for telecommunications and security systems so technology is current and manageable. Train school administration on the use of these technologies. Provide oversight and administration of the district phone system and assigned district cellphones.
QUALIFICATIONS
License/Certifications:
Valid North Carolina driver's license required at time of hire Certifications in Microsoft are a plus
Education:
Associate degree in Computer Science or a related field plus four years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Four years of experience with technical support and system management in a network environment Experience in computer systems and peripheral troubleshooting Experience with cellphone and district phone system administration Experience with physical campus video surveillance security systems / intercom systems and procedures used for a secure environment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under the supervision of the Data Systems Manager, assists with the selection and installation of hardware, software, and related peripherals Plan, direct, implement, and maintain an efficient, cost-effective, and user-focused telecommunications system for BCS in coordination with the Technology Director and Data Systems Manager Coordinate all requests for VOIP/Cell Phone moves, additions, changes, and repairs Inspect and verify the installation of all telecommunications systems performed by contractors Coordinate and lead training on all telecommunications systems Negotiate with outside contractors, vendors, and service providers; assist in selections, negotiate fees, rates, and pricing for telecommunications systems Respond to work orders for installation, termination, or repair of copper data cables and jacks Respond to work orders involving the moving, adding, or changing of the security and communication systems and its components Respond to work orders associated with Intercom PA systems including intercom phones, speakers, and bell schedules Responsible for ensuring the district's security cameras are working and recording 24/7/365 days a year Assist as requested, the capture of safety camera video images from the district CCTV system Supports, maintains and troubleshoots the CCTV system configurations subject to Data Systems Manager approval Maintains confidentiality of investigation type concerns of all types generated from systems under your responsibility Available for after hours emergencies and weekends to assist critical personnel with the restoration of network services Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving failures or mitigating cybersecurity events. Other duties as assigned by Data Systems Manager or Technology Director
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Strong professional and interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community Strong knowledge of computers and related technologies Strong knowledge of security systems used by the district Knowledge of components of data and network infrastructure Knowledge of Cisco Call Manager Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and computer principles as applied to the repair and maintenance of all related equipment Knowledge of data, safety camera, and telecommunication industry terminology

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Strength and energy sufficient to maintain an active work schedule involving driving and/or physical exertion; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties requiring close vision and ability to adjust focus; ability to distinguish between colors; standing, stooping, or sitting for extended periods of time; frequently walking; kneeling, bending at the waist and knee, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally as needed; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; frequently lifting and or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds; and ability to work at heights on ladders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee works in both indoor and outdoor conditions and frequently works near video displays. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate. The employee works with various heavy and light equipment, hand tools, and maintenance repair problems. The employee interfaces with all levels of individuals within the school district.
