Full-time Job Title:
Access Control Technician Company:
Converge Communication Technologies, Inc.
Location:
Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas
Pay Range:
$30.00 to $38.00 per hour, based on experience
Job Type:
Full-time About the Role Converge Communication Technologies is looking for an experienced Access Control Technician to install, service, troubleshoot, and help improve our access control operations. This is not just a cable-pulling role. We need someone who understands doors, readers, lock hardware, controllers, power supplies, cabling, programming, troubleshooting, and customer communication. The ideal candidate has experience with systems such as Verkada, PDK / ProdataKey, Alarm.com, Hanwha, Brivo, and other commercial access control or video security platforms. Certifications are preferred, but strong hands-on field experience is just as important. Primary Responsibilities Install, service, program, and troubleshoot commercial access control systems. Wire and install card readers, door contacts, REX devices, electric strikes, mag locks, electrified locks, power supplies, controllers, and related hardware. Pull, route, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling when needed. Work with doors, frames, strikes, closers, panic hardware, transfer hinges, and related door hardware. Troubleshoot access control issues involving locks, readers, relays, power, wiring, network connectivity, and software configuration. Read floor plans, door schedules, wiring diagrams, and project documentation. Assist with camera, video security, and integrated systems when needed. Communicate professionally with customers, general contractors, electricians, door hardware vendors, project managers, and internal team members. Help improve our access control installation standards, documentation, panel layouts, programming standards, and closeout process. Required Experience Hands-on commercial access control installation and service experience. Experience with Verkada, PDK / ProdataKey, Alarm.com, Hanwha, Brivo, or similar platforms. Ability to wire and troubleshoot doors, readers, locks, contacts, REX devices, and power supplies. Low-voltage cabling experience. Basic understanding of IP networks, PoE devices, switches, and connectivity troubleshooting. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Professional appearance and strong customer communication skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work above ceilings, and work in commercial jobsite environments. Preferred Experience Verkada certification or strong Verkada field experience. PDK / ProdataKey experience. Alarm.com commercial security or access control experience. Hanwha camera or video system experience. Brivo experience. Experience with other systems such as Lenel, Software House, AMAG, Feenics, Openpath / Avigilon Alta, Kisi, Kantech, HID, Axis, or similar platforms. Experience leading small crews, training junior technicians, or helping improve internal processes. What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is technically strong, dependable, organized, and personable. The right person should be able to walk up to a door and understand what needs to happen. They should know how the reader, lock, contact, REX, power supply, controller, network, and software all work together. We also want someone who can help us build a stronger access control process, not just complete individual tasks. 30-60-90 Day Plan First 30 Days Learn Converge's current access control standards, preferred equipment, documentation process, and project workflow. Review current access control projects, service tickets, and common installation methods. Demonstrate strong field skills with door wiring, readers, locks, power supplies, controllers, cabling, and basic programming. Work alongside the team on active projects and service calls. Identify any immediate improvements needed in labeling, wiring, panel layout, documentation, or programming consistency. Build trust with project managers, technicians, and customers through reliable communication and professional field work. First 60 Days Begin handling access control installations and service calls with limited supervision. Assist with standardizing door wiring methods, panel layouts, device naming, programming conventions, and closeout documentation. Help troubleshoot more complex access control issues involving power, relays, lock behavior, network connectivity, and software configuration. Support junior technicians with proper installation methods and best practices. Help create cleaner jobsite documentation, including photos, notes, as-builts, and device details. Provide feedback on tools, parts, materials, and processes needed to make access control jobs run smoother. First 90 Days Take ownership of assigned access control projects or portions of larger projects. Help lead installation quality, troubleshooting, programming, and closeout for access control work. Contribute to a repeatable Converge access control standard for installs, service, documentation, programming, and customer turnover. Help improve coordination between field technicians, project managers, customers, electricians, and door hardware vendors. Show the ability to work independently while still communicating clearly with the team. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce callbacks, and make access control projects more profitable and consistent. Compensation Pay range is $30.00 to $38.00 per hour, based on experience, certifications, and ability to work independently. Higher compensation may be considered for a candidate who can help lead access control projects, train other technicians, improve internal processes, and support multiple platforms. How to Apply Please submit your resume and include a brief summary of the access control systems you have worked with. Please specifically note any experience or certifications with Verkada, PDK / ProdataKey, Alarm.com, Hanwha, Brivo, or other commercial access control platforms.
