Field TechnicianPosition OverviewThe Field Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical power equipment and control systems at customer sites. The role focuses on safe, high-quality field service delivery, including calibration, replacement of faulty components, interpretation of schematics and wiring diagrams, and providing professional customer support. The technician will work independently and as part of a team to ensure systems are reliable and meet performance and regulatory standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform on-site installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of electrical panels, power equipment, and control systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults using test equipment, schematics, and wiring diagrams to quickly identify root causes and implement repairs.
Calibrate instruments and control devices to manufacturer specifications and document calibration results.
Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections on electrical systems to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
Repair or replace components, wiring, connectors, relays, and other electrical parts as required.
Provide clear, professional customer support on-site and remotely, explaining issues, repair options, and safety recommendations.
Maintain accurate work orders, service reports, calibration certificates, and parts inventory records.
Adhere to safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and all applicable electrical codes and regulations.
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and procurement teams to source parts and update schematics or procedures as needed.
Travel to customer locations, sometimes working after-hours or on-call for emergency service requests.
QualificationsAssociate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.2+ years of field experience working as an electrical technician, field technician, or similar role with exposure to electrical panels and power equipment.
Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including use of multimeters, insulation testers, clamp meters, and other diagnostic tools.
Experience with calibration of sensors, control devices, and measurement instruments; able to document and issue calibration certificates.
Proficient in reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Hands-on experience with maintenance, repair, and replacement of electrical components and assemblies.
Customer-focused communication skills with experience providing on-site support and explaining technical information to non-technical customers.
Valid drivers license and ability to travel to job sites; willingness to be on-call or work flexible hours when required.
Familiarity with safety regulations (NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout) and basic safety certifications (OSHA 10/30 desirable).
Preferred:
additional certifications such as Journeyman Electrician, EPA certification, or manufacturer-specific training; experience with PLCs, control systems, and industrial power systems.
