Job Description

Low Voltage Construction Technician (Traveling) Job Description This role focuses on installing and supporting low voltage infrastructure on large construction projects, primarily in data centers and other complex facilities. You will travel frequently to new job sites across the United States to install cabling, wireless access points, and temporary Wi-Fi solutions for entire construction sites, often working on projects that last several months. Responsibilities Travel to new construction sites and data centers across the United States on a weekly basis to perform low voltage installations. Install and route low voltage cabling, including Cat6 and similar systems, in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. Install j-hooks, cable management systems, network cabinets, and related infrastructure to support structured cabling systems. Install, configure, and securely mount wireless access points (WAPs) and related low voltage devices throughout construction sites and facilities. Set up and support temporary Wi-Fi networks for entire construction sites on larger projects, ensuring stable and reliable connectivity during the build phase. Perform splicing and terminations on low voltage cabling with a high level of proficiency and attention to detail. Use scissor lifts and boom lifts safely to access elevated work areas while performing low voltage installations and splicing. Collaborate with other technicians, site supervisors, and construction teams to coordinate installation activities and meet project timelines. Follow all safety procedures and comply with OSHA 10 guidelines and site-specific safety requirements at all times. Maintain, organize, and properly use personal hand tools and company-provided major tools and equipment on each job site. Document work performed as required, including labeling cables, updating site records, and communicating progress to project leads. Adapt to varying project scopes and timelines, including assignments that may last 3-4 months and require extended stays away from home. Essential Skills Proven experience in low voltage installation, including structured cabling and related systems. Strong wiring experience with low voltage systems, including Cat6 cabling and similar technologies. High proficiency in splicing low voltage cabling and performing terminations accurately and efficiently. Ability and willingness to travel across the United States every week, including trips that may keep you away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time. Experience working on data center construction projects or similar large-scale low voltage environments. Current certification to operate scissor lifts and boom lifts safely on active construction sites. OSHA 10 certification and demonstrated commitment to working safely in construction environments. Ability to read, understand, and follow installation plans, layouts, and project specifications. Capability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced, constantly changing construction environments. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues with low voltage installations in the field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ownership of basic hand tools required for low voltage work; major tools and equipment will be provided. Prior experience installing j-hooks, cabinets, WAPs, and temporary Wi-Fi systems on construction sites. Comfort working at heights and in elevated work platforms such as scissor lifts and boom lifts. Familiarity with best practices for routing, securing, and labeling structured cabling in data centers and large facilities. Ability to manage time effectively while traveling and working on multiple projects over several months. Strong communication skills to coordinate with site teams and report progress clearly and consistently. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a highly travel-focused role in active construction environments, with assignments at new sites almost every week. You will frequently work in large data centers and similar facilities, often on projects that can last 3-4 months. Travel across the United States is a core part of the job, and you may be away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time depending on project needs. The work takes place in typical construction conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, varying temperatures, and elevated work areas. You will regularly use low voltage hand tools, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other construction equipment. Major tools and equipment are provided, while you bring your own basic hand tools appropriate for low voltage work Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
