  • $40 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications Customer communication Outdoor work Diesel mechanics Electrical work Lifts and hoists Full Job Description NSC Staffing has an immediate opening for a Diesel Mechanic in Birmingham, AL Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable Traveling Diesel Mechanic to perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel-powered trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment at customer locations.
This role requires travel between job sites and provides hands-on field service support to ensure fleet uptime and reliability. Schedule Monday
  • Friday 7:00 AM
  • 5:00 PM standard shift Rotating 24/7 on-call schedule for emergency roadside and field service calls Overtime available based on workload and emergency response needs Pay Rate $36
  • $40 per hour depending on experience Overtime paid at time-and-a-half where applicable Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines and related systems in the field Perform preventative maintenance on trucks, trailers, and heavy-duty equipment Repair brakes, suspension, hydraulics, electrical, and drivetrain systems Respond to breakdowns and emergency service calls at customer locations Use diagnostic software and tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues Perform DOT inspections and ensure vehicle compliance with safety regulations Document all repairs, inspections, and service work accurately Communicate effectively with fleet managers and customers regarding repairs and timelines Maintain service vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe and clean condition Qualifications Prior experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician required Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems Ability to work independently in field environments Valid driver's license with clean driving record required CDL preferred but not required depending on company requirements Experience with diagnostic software a plus Ability to participate in rotating on-call schedule (24/7 availability when assigned) Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50-100+ lbs regularly Work in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working under equipment Ability to safely operate tools, jacks, lifts, and diagnostic equipment #INDLI
