The Senior/Lead Mechanic is responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on motor coaches and fleet vehicles. This role ensures all buses operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company standards. The ideal candidate is skilled in diesel and heavy duty systems, detail oriented, and committed to maintaining a reliable fleet for passenger service. Candidate must possess or be willing to obtain a Class A or B commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement within 120 days of hire, and participate in call out rotation for two weeks per month. Should be certified or willing to obtain certifications as needed under industry and management guidance. Key Responsibilities Perform routine and preventive maintenance on buses, including oil changes, brake service, tire work, and fluid checks Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air brake system issues Complete repairs on engines, transmissions, HVAC systems, and other major components Prepare and review completed work orders, and load to maintenance record system with details of repairs Perform monthly, quarterly and annual inspections on buses based on FMCSA/DOT, company and industry requirements/standards Work closely with management and safety department to report results of accidents/incidents/damages involving buses Conduct DOT required inspections and document findings accurately Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and schematics to troubleshoot issues Report and maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours Assist with road calls and emergency repairs as needed Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard free work space and shop environment Communicate repair needs, timelines, and concerns effectively to the Fleet & Facility Manager or management Support the overall maintenance team with additional tasks as assigned by supervisor Qualifications Three years experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy duty technician; bus or transit industry experience a plus Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, HVAC, and hydraulic systems Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic reports Valid CDL or willingness to obtain one (Class B with passenger endorsement preferred).
