Job Title:
Field Service Diesel Mechanic Job Description The field service diesel mechanic drives to multiple job sites to perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of construction equipment used in utility operations. This role supports both shop-based and field-based equipment, including passenger trucks, directional drills, cable plows, and excavators, using a company-provided service truck within approximately a four-hour radius of central Arkansas. Responsibilities Travel from site to site within a four-hour radius of central Arkansas to provide on-site maintenance and repair services for construction equipment used in utility operations. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on diesel-powered equipment, including passenger trucks, directional drills, cable plows, and excavators. Perform routine maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacements, to keep equipment in safe and efficient operating condition. Carry out complex repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and related mechanical components in both field and shop environments. Use diagnostic tools, computer-based systems, and technical documentation such as blueprints and schematics to identify and resolve equipment problems. Apply troubleshooting techniques to electrical and hydraulic systems to quickly determine root causes and implement effective solutions. Perform basic fabrication tasks as needed to support equipment repairs and modifications. Maintain and properly use a company-provided service truck, ensuring it is stocked with necessary tools, parts, and supplies. Document all work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and time spent, using computer systems and standard reporting procedures. Communicate clearly with supervisors and site personnel regarding equipment status, repair needs, and estimated completion times. Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on job sites, in the shop, and while driving the service truck. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience working with diesel engines and hydraulic systems, with consideration for relevant technical schooling in place of some experience. Strong proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, including mechanical and engine-related issues. Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems on construction and utility equipment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical documentation. Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with general mechanical repair and maintenance. Field service experience performing on-site diagnostics and repairs on heavy equipment or similar machinery. Strong computer skills for diagnostics, documentation, and communication. Valid driver's license suitable for operating a service truck. Ability to provide and effectively use a personal basic set of tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred. Experience working on construction equipment such as passenger trucks, directional drills, cable plows, and excavators. Ability to work independently in the field, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple service calls. Comfort working both in shop environments and on remote job sites. Technical schooling or formal training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field is considered a plus. Why Work Here? The work involves being on active construction and utility job sites, as well as occasional shop-based tasks, and requires comfort working outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Hours may vary based on service needs and travel requirements, and you will rely on diagnostic tools, computer systems, and your own basic tool set to complete daily tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Little Rock, AR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $79040.00/yr. Company vehicle Monthly tool allowance of $200 Credit card for lodging. $55/day per diem only when overnight stay is expected for meals.
