Job Title:
Equipment Mechanic Job Description The Equipment Mechanic performs repairs and preventive maintenance on forklifts, light and medium truck vehicles, and a wide range of farm and processing plant equipment. The role focuses on diagnosing and servicing air conditioning and heating systems, brakes, shocks and struts, steering components, cooling systems, tires, hydraulic systems, and engines to keep agricultural and processing operations running safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Perform repairs and maintenance on forklifts, light and medium truck vehicles, and various agricultural and processing plant equipment. Carry out routine preventive maintenance servicing, including inspections, adjustments, lubrication, and parts replacement as needed. Diagnose and repair air conditioning and heating systems to ensure proper climate control and operator comfort. Inspect, service, and repair brake systems, shocks and struts, steering components, and suspension systems, including air bag systems. Maintain and repair cooling systems, including radiators, hoses, and related components, to prevent overheating and ensure optimal engine performance. Mount, dismount, and balance tires on trucks and equipment using appropriate tools and procedures. Use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify faults and perform repairs on diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems. Perform mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs and preventive maintenance on medium and large agricultural and processing equipment. Troubleshoot and repair field-based heavy equipment, as well as light and medium trucks, addressing a wide variety of mechanical issues. Read and interpret automotive wiring schematics to diagnose and repair electrical issues accurately and safely. Use hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment (MIG and stick) to repair and fabricate components as required. Document maintenance and repair work accurately and communicate equipment status and repair needs to supervisors or team members. Follow safety procedures and guidelines while working around heavy equipment, moving vehicles, and in varying environmental conditions. Experience performing preventive maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment. Hands-on experience with diesel maintenance and mechanical repair. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems on trucks and agricultural equipment. Ability to repair and maintain brake systems, including air bags, shocks, and struts. Experience working with cooling systems, including troubleshooting overheating and coolant issues. At least 1 year of experience as an entry-level forklift mechanic or in a closely related role. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.35 - $21.35/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
