Job Description

The Lead Diesel Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of all company vehicles and equipment, ensuring that the fleet operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This role reports directly to Operations and works independently to prioritize tasks and implement preventative maintenance programs that minimize downtime and maximize vehicle reliability. Our fleet consists of Semi Trucks, End Dumps, Low-bed Trailers, Heavy Equipment, and Light Duty Pick-Up Trucks. The Lead Diesel Maintenance Technician also serves as a key liaison between maintenance, fleet operations, and management, providing expertise and recommendations on maintenance strategies and investments. Key Responsibilities Maintenance Execution Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, and specialty equipment. Diagnose equipment issues and implement effective repair solutions. Monitor fleet health and address any recurring issues or potential failures proactively. Monitor DVIRs and the maintenance system daily. Enforce and follow safety standards and best practices in all maintenance activities. Preventative Maintenance and Recordkeeping Develop and follow a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule to extend vehicle lifespans and reduce unexpected breakdowns. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Ensure compliance with company policies, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements. Parts Ordering and Inventory Order parts as needed to maintain equipment and keep inventory stocked. Collaborate with Operations to manage maintenance expenditures and stay within budget. Evaluate and source quality replacement parts, tools, and equipment at the best cost. Recommend capital improvements, upgrades, or new equipment purchases as necessary. Communication and Coordination Report directly to Operations on fleet condition, maintenance costs, and equipment needs. Serve as the primary point of contact for driving staff, providing remote troubleshooting and assistance for equipment issues in the field. Communicate vehicle status and availability clearly so Operations can plan accordingly. Assist in planning and scheduling vehicle downtime to minimize operational disruption. Yard/Shop Cleanliness and Organization Manage the cleanliness and organization of the shop and yard on a daily basis.
