Full Job Description Lead Diesel Mechanic:
Job Overview A Lead Diesel Mechanic is the backbone of a high-functioning shop. This role combines hands-on technical mastery with operational leadership. You aren't just the person who can fix the "unfixable" engine; you're the mentor ensuring the rest of the team works safely, efficiently, and accurately. Key Responsibilities 1. Advanced Technical Maintenance Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, and hydraulics. Utilize advanced electronic diagnostic tools to identify fault codes and performance issues.
Quality control:
Review and "sign off" on work performed by junior technicians to ensure it meets safety standards. 2. Team Leadership & Mentorship Provide guidance and "on-the-tool" training to apprentice and mid-level mechanics. Assign daily work orders based on technician skill levels and shop priority. Promote a culture of safety, ensuring all PPE and shop safety protocols are strictly followed. 3. Shop Operations Manage parts inventory and coordinate with vendors to ensure minimal downtime. Maintain accurate service records, labor hours, and maintenance logs in the shop management system. Interface with fleet managers or customers to explain technical issues and repair timelines.
