Job Description

ROTHA Contracting Company, Inc. is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to support the maintenance and repair of our fleet and construction equipment throughout Connecticut. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and responding to field service calls to help keep equipment operating safely and efficiently while minimizing downtime on active construction projects. Key Responsibilities Preventative Maintenance Perform preventative maintenance services, including draining and replacing fluids and filters on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles, like excavators, air compressors, Class B and C trucks, and other construction equipment. Inspect and top off fluid levels as needed Properly collect and label oil samples from equipment components Equipment Inspections & Repairs Perform equipment inspections and communicate maintenance concerns to Foremen Respond to service calls at active jobsites to diagnose and repair equipment, minimizing downtime and supporting safe operations Fleet Support & Documentation • Accurately document completed work orders and maintenance history in fleet maintenance software systems Coordinate equipment service schedules with Foremen to minimize downtime Maintain service trucks, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition Follow maintenance procedures, repair manuals, and company safety standards Support fleet reliability through proactive communication and attention to detail This is a union position. Candidates may be required to join the applicable union in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and applicable law. Required Qualifications Prior experience in the diesel, fleet, or heavy equipment industry preferred Valid CDL Class B or Class A license required Tanker and Hazmat endorsements preferred Clean and insurable driving record Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and within a team environment Basic computer proficiency and ability to utilize maintenance software systems Ability to read and understand equipment manuals and technical information Strong communication skills and ability to document work clearly and accurately Reliable and committed to safety and high-quality work
Compensation & Benefits Pay:
Compensation is based on the applicable union collective bargaining agreement and includes hourly wages, health insurance, and other negotiated benefits.

Full-time, typical office hours are 7:00 - 5:30 PM. Flexibility to work occasional nights, weekends, and emergency service calls is required.
