Job Title:
Diesel Mechanic Job Description This full-time Diesel Mechanic role in South Florida focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy diesel equipment, including cranes and fleet vehicles. The position requires a detail-oriented technician with strong electronic and product specification knowledge, capable of inspecting and overhauling non-working engines and completing projects on time and within budget. Responsibilities Operate and inspect machines, trucks, and heavy equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures. Inspect, repair, and overhaul non-working diesel engines and related systems. Perform maintenance and repair on heavy equipment, including cranes and fleet vehicles. Use mechanical and electrical power tools safely and effectively to perform repairs and preventive maintenance. Schedule fleet vehicles and equipment for repairs and routine maintenance. Use diesel engine diagnostic software to identify issues and verify repairs. Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems. Interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and product specifications to guide repair and maintenance work. Conduct preventive maintenance services to ensure equipment reliability and extend equipment life. Maintain and manage work order logs, ensuring accurate documentation of all repairs and services. Coordinate with vendors to support parts procurement, service needs, and equipment support. Collaborate with other mechanics and team members to prioritize work and meet operational needs. Follow safety procedures and best practices while working in a shop environment and around heavy equipment. Essential Skills 2-5 years of experience working with heavy equipment. In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms. Advanced knowledge of vehicles, diesel engines, and their electrical systems. Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment. Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software. Hands-on diesel engine troubleshooting and repair experience. Experience with crane maintenance and heavy equipment service. Strong mechanical skills, including work on engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems on diesel-powered equipment. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. Strong attention to detail in inspections, diagnostics, and repair documentation. Basic knowledge of computer systems and relevant electronics used in diagnostics and shop operations. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation. Valid driver's license. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with team members and vendors. Effective collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience scheduling and coordinating fleet repairs and maintenance. Experience managing and generating work order logs and service records. Comfort using a wide range of mechanical and electrical power tools. Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs for trucks, cranes, and other heavy equipment. Ability to build and maintain productive vendor relationships. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple repairs and priorities in a busy shop environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a shop environment working with heavy equipment, trucks, and cranes. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Saturday shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on a rotating basis with other mechanics. Overtime is regularly available. The role involves hands-on work with diesel engines, diagnostic software, mechanical and electrical power tools, and various shop equipment in a physically active setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oakland Park, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
