Diesel Mechanic - Field Service (Heavy Equipment) Job Description This role focuses on providing on-site maintenance and repair for a fleet of heavy equipment at long-term customer job sites. You will perform scheduled preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and propane systems, and ensure equipment operates safely and reliably. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while building positive relationships with customers. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on a fleet of diesel-powered and heavy equipment at long-term customer job sites, following a consistent service schedule. Oversee and perform oil changes, lubrication services, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements, and other routine maintenance tasks. Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, including dozers, forklifts, skid steers, and similar machinery, to ensure proper operation at the job site. Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and propane systems using appropriate diagnostic tools and methods. Recondition and replace worn or damaged parts to return equipment to a safe and fully functional condition. Analyze equipment for signs of significant wear or tear and address issues proactively to ensure reliable operation until the next scheduled visit. Educate customers on the proper use and basic care of equipment to help prevent future breakdowns and misuse. Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols posted at active job sites while performing repairs and maintenance. Maintain the job site work area in a clean, organized, and safe condition at all times. Operate service vehicles safely and ensure tools and equipment remain in good working order. Produce timely, accurate, and detailed service reports and repair logs using computer-based systems. Follow all established field procedures and company protocols during service visits. Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with customers through reliable service and clear communication. Perform additional related duties as assigned to support operations and customer needs. Essential Skills Minimum 3 years of experience as a field service technician working on heavy equipment such as dozers, forklifts, and skid steers. Hands-on experience with diesel and automotive mechanics, including engine diagnostics and repair. Proficiency in diagnostic testing and troubleshooting of fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and propane systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to operate service vehicles safely and maintain tools and equipment in good working condition. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor job site conditions. Strong mechanical aptitude with high attention to detail. Solid computer skills for logging service reports and accessing technical data. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Flexibility to adapt to changing job site needs and schedules. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience performing preventative maintenance programs on fleets of heavy equipment. Demonstrated ability to educate customers on proper equipment use and basic care. Proven track record of maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area. Work Environment This role is based at active outdoor job sites with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with rotating Saturday shifts as needed. You will work as part of a small crew of two, operating in a hands-on, field-based environment that involves frequent equipment inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance. The position requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds and working in varying weather conditions typical of outdoor job sites. Personal protective equipment is required and includes a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots, which support a strong safety-focused culture. A company truck and gas card are provided and kept onsite at the data center to support your daily field service activities.
