Job Description

Overview We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty diesel engines and equipment. This role involves working with a variety of vehicles including primarily garbage trucks, portable toilet trucks, and other business vehicles. The Heavy Diesel Mechanic will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our fleet and equipment. Candidates should possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency with hand tools and power tools, and the ability to interpret schematics and technical manuals. Prior experience working on larger diesel vehicles is required. The ideal candidate will possess welding, fabricating, and hydraulic experience. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, and air brake systems Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, and brake repairs Fabricate parts or modifications using welding and hand tools as needed Operating vehicles around the yard to pull in and out of shop. Perform test drives as needed Interpret schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards Repair and maintain fleet of approximately 10-15 garbage trucks Perform welding, soldering, and assembly tasks for equipment repair or fabrication projects Assist in the installation of new equipment or upgrades to existing machinery Maintain detailed service records for all repairs and maintenance activities Skills Extensive experience with diesel truck operation including makes such as Freightliner, International, Peterbilt, and Mack Strong knowledge of diesel engine repair including powertrain components like transmissions, motors, and rear ends Proficiency with automotive diagnostics tools and electrical systems repair Ability to read and interpret schematics for complex mechanical systems Skilled in welding, soldering, fabrication, and assembly techniques Familiarity with HVAC systems related to vehicle or industrial equipment maintenance Experience with vehicle maintenance including tire service, alignment, suspension work, brake repair, and air brake systems Mechanical knowledge of hydraulics, hydraulics repair, HVAC systems in vehicles or machinery Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with strong attention to detail This position offers an opportunity to work on diverse equipment within a family owned, small business environment.
