Technician Levels & Responsibilities Level 4 / Level 5 Diesel Technician (Senior Technician) Senior technicians are responsible for advanced diagnostics, major repairs, and mentoring junior technicians.
Responsibilities include:
Installing and repairing front gear housings Performing complete engine overhauls on International ISX15 and X15 engines Working on trucks including Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Mack, Volvo, and Class B straight trucks Performing advanced diagnostics Supporting and mentoring Level 1-3 technicians Completing complex mechanical repairs independently Senior technicians must also be capable of performing all Level 1-3 responsibilities. Level 3 Diesel Technician Technicians at this level perform advanced diagnostics and major mechanical repairs.
Responsibilities include:
Using computers for advanced diagnostics Performing engine regens Adjusting speed parameters Checking speed sensors Looking up fault codes and troubleshooting Replacing clutches Performing transmission R&R Completing rear end / differential R&R Replacing front and rear main seals Performing valve adjustments Installing or repairing exhaust and intake manifold gaskets Removing cylinder heads Replacing fuel pumps and engine mounts Performing 5th wheel adjustments and replacements Level 2 Diesel Technician Technicians at this level perform intermediate diagnostics and component repairs.
Responsibilities include:
Performing basic computer diagnostics Electrical troubleshooting including: Repairing broken wires Checking voltage and ohms Using test lights and power probes Performing clutch adjustments Repairing U-joints Completing alignments Replacing king pins Repairing blower motors Installing turbos and radiators Replacing hoses Working with emissions systems:
DPF DOC SCR
NOx sensors Repairing air compressors Servicing fuel tanks and door actuators Repairing minor exhaust leaks Level 1 Diesel Technician Entry-level technicians focus on routine maintenance and basic repairs.
Responsibilities include:
Oil changes Tire replacements Brake service Replacing wheel seals Performing brake adjustments Replacing light bulbs and tail lights Servicing differential fluids Fixing air leaks Replacing AC filters and intake filters Repairing door handles Replacing window regulators and motors Servicing air dryer filter cartridges Replacing DEF filters Repairing bumpers, quarter fenders, and brackets Requirements High school diploma or GED Technical or vocational training in vehicle repair (preferred) Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required) Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Experience with diagnostic software such as: Cummins Insite, Allison, Bendix, Wabco, DLB (Level 3+ required) Schedule Monday
PM Saturdays:
Rotation approximately once every 1.5 months
