DESCRIPTION
The Heavy-Duty Diesel Technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines and commercial truck systems to ensure safe and reliable fleet operations.
Specific duties include:
diagnosing and repairing diesel engines on Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo, and International trucks; inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing steering and chassis systems; performing electrical system repairs and wiring troubleshooting; conducting welding work on truck components and chassis as needed; using diagnostic tools, meters, and manufacturer-specific software to identify mechanical and electronic faults; performing preventive maintenance including fluid changes, filter replacements, and component adjustments; following manufacturer repair manuals and OEM specifications; maintaining detailed repair records and technical documentation; communicating with service managers and customers regarding repair needs, recommendations, cost estimates, and timelines; staying current with diesel technology, industry repair standards, and evolving truck systems; adhering to OSHA, DOT, and shop safety requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School/GED, and two (2) years of hands-on experience repairing diesel engines, steering systems, and chassis components on commercial trucks.
Special Skills or Requirements:
1. Ability to operate diagnostic tools and software; 2. Performing welding and electrical repairs; 3. Interpreting technical diagrams and manufacturer repair manuals; and 4. Conducting routine inspections, fluid changes, filter replacements, and adjustments to prevent equipment failures.
