This role reports directly to the Lead Mechanic and Management and requires experience with diagnosing problems and making repairs, with knowledge of forestry equipment as a bonus. You'll get hands-on experience with a diverse lineup of equipment including:
Brush Removal & Land-Clearing Machines:
skid steers, forestry mulchers, grapple trucks, brush chippers, and stump grinders
Tree-Service Equipment:
bucket trucks, loader tractors, grapple loaders, chip trucks, and log trucks
Heavy Haul & Transport Units:
semis, lowboys, gooseneck trailers, and equipment haulers
Mulch-Manufacturing Equipment:
tub grinders, horizontal grinders, conveyor systems, coloring machines, and yard loaders
General Fleet Vehicles:
service trucks, pickups, dump trucks, trailers, and jobsite machinery Customer equipment: maintenance & repairs Who We Are Central Tree provides professional tree and brush clearing for residential and commercial clients throughout Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. With over two decades of experience, our services include Land Clearing, Lane Clearing, Brush Mowing, Tree & Stump Removal and Residential Tree Trimming. We are experienced, licensed and insured forestry professionals committed to safety, environmental stewardship, and quality workmanship. We also provide premium landscape mulch, equipment repair, custom hydraulic hoses, and are Authorized Dealers for Ryan's Equipment and Denis Cimaf mulchers. Central Tree is our community's one-stop shop! Key Responsibilities Diagnose & repair: Work on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, cooling and fuel systems.
Perform maintenance:
Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers and forestry attachments.
Troubleshoot hydraulics:
Identify and fix leaks, hoses, fittings and pressure issues, and assemble custom hydraulic hoses.
Troubleshoot electrical systems:
Diagnose wiring, batteries, alternators, starters, sensors, relays, lights and controls. Complete field & shop repairs: Assist in the shop and in the field when equipment breaks down on job sites.
Operate equipment:
Safely operate loaders, excavators, skid steers and forestry machines for diagnostics, repositioning, loading and unloading. Document & communicate: Document all work performed, including diagnostics, parts used, completed repairs, etc. (apps & paper documentation) Record parts used, labour and photos; keep leadership updated on repair status and parts needs. Organize & improve: Keep work zones, tools, parts and service bays tidy, safe and functional.
Teamwork:
Ability to take and respond to directives issued by the Lead Mechanic and Management and work with other mechanics.
Flexibility:
Work efficiently under pressure and adjust to changing priorities as needed. Required Qualifications and Skills Relevant work experience and/or a degree, technical diploma, certificate, or apprenticeship in heavy equipment repair. Valid driver's license. Ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening . Read, write, and professionally communicate in English with specific attention to detail. Knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, HVAC systems, and electrical systems in heavy machinery. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic software effectively. Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in physically demanding environments. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Reliable attendance, strong communication skills and a safety-first mindset.
Bonus:
forestry or construction equipment experience; welding or fabrication skills. Tools Employees must provide and maintain their own standard tool set. A combination of basic, company owned, shop tools are available for employee use, but it is essential that the applicant can supply their own tools. Employee start date contingent upon delivery of personal tools.
Job Type:
Full-time Monday-Friday (typically 7 AM-4:30 PM) Ability to work flexible hours , Saturdays and Sundays as needed. Employees will be required to come in early or work later depending on the workload.

$30.00-$35.00 per hour, with opportunity for negotiation after 6 months.
