As a Diesel Mechanic, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing a fleet of transit buses, trucks, and service vehicles. This position offers the opportunity to work with a variety of vehicles and equipment, perform both routine maintenance and emergency repairs, and contribute to the overall reliability of public transportation services. The role is safety-sensitive and reports directly to the Fleet Maintenance Manager. Responsibilities Perform routine, preventive, and general maintenance on all transit vehicles in accordance with manufacturer specifications and schedules. Assist other mechanics with complex repairs and troubleshooting. Respond to emergency road calls and perform on-site repairs as needed. Drive vehicles to dealerships for offsite repairs when required. Prepare work orders and maintain accurate records of labor, parts, supplies, fuel, and tire usage. Protect and secure parts, supplies, and the maintenance facility. Use cleaning equipment such as steam machines to clean engine compartments and other components. Inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair or replace lighting, electrical, mechanical, and air conditioning components. Replace parts such as water pumps, generators, light bulbs, switches, tires, air systems, steering components, batteries, and panels; perform oil and fluid changes. Operate transit buses, trucks, automobiles, and forklifts as needed. Follow all state motor vehicle laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures. Participate in safety training and report potential hazards to management. Clean, fuel, and park buses as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent required. One to two years of experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing motor vehicles, transit buses, or related heavy equipment. Ability to obtain a CDL passenger license and operate a transit bus (training provided if necessary). Working knowledge of basic maintenance, custodial functions, and shop mechanics. Ability to operate equipment such as air compressors, power washers, forklifts, and hand tools. Physical ability to lift up to 60 lbs., bend, reach, carry, and climb; ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain accurate records. Strong teamwork and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to safe work practices and participation in ongoing safety training.
