Job Title:
Diesel Mechanic Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced diesel mechanic to maintain and repair a fleet of approximately 20 trucks and 60 trailers in a busy industrial facility. You will perform DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, and a wide range of mechanical and fabrication tasks to keep equipment safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance. Responsibilities Perform DOT inspections on trucks and trailers to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and safety standards. Conduct preventive maintenance (PMs) on diesel equipment, including brakes, oil, axles, lights, and structural components such as flooring and walls. Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems on semi-trucks and trailers. Replace and repair brakes, tires, and DPF filters as needed to maintain safe and efficient operation. Perform suspension work and related undercarriage repairs on trucks and trailers. Carry out welding and fabrication tasks, including repairing and reinforcing flooring and other structural components. Top off and replace fluids as needed, including engine oil and other essential lubricants and coolants. Use personal tools (up to 1/2 inch) and facility equipment to complete repairs and maintenance efficiently and safely. Document work performed and communicate equipment status and repair needs to appropriate personnel. Work collaboratively with other team members to prioritize repairs, minimize downtime, and maintain a safe, organized work area. Essential Skills At least 3 years of diesel mechanic experience, specifically working on semi-trucks. Proven ability to perform DOT inspections on trucks and trailers. Hands-on experience performing preventive maintenance on diesel equipment, including brakes, oil changes, axles, and lighting systems. Strong welding and fabrication skills, including the ability to repair and fabricate flooring and structural components. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems. Ability to replace and service brakes, tires, and DPF filters. Experience performing suspension work on heavy-duty vehicles. Ability to perform PMs on structural elements such as flooring and walls. Ownership of a personal tool set up to 1/2 inch. Ability to work safely in an industrial environment and follow all safety procedures and guidelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A) is preferred. ASE certification is a plus. Experience working in an industrial or recycling facility environment is beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Solid communication skills to report issues and document repairs clearly and accurately. Why Work Here? The role involves working both inside the shop and in the elements from time to time, so you should be comfortable with varying weather conditions. The standard schedule is approximately 45 hours per week, with an expectation to work until at least 5:00 p.m. The environment is fast-paced and equipment-focused, with access to the tools and machinery needed to service a fleet of trucks and trailers. Uniforms, safety boots, hard hats, and warm weather gear are supplied, supporting a professional and safety-conscious work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of South Bend, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $47840.00- $58240.00/yr.
