Fleet Diesel Mechanic Job Description The Fleet Diesel Mechanic performs mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on company fleet vehicles in compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations, with a primary focus on medium- and heavy-duty diesel tractors and trailers. This role ensures that all vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready to support daily operations. Responsibilities + Troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete repairs on all types of fleet vehicles, with emphasis on medium- and heavy-duty diesel tractors and trailers. + Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance within the fleet department to minimize downtime and extend vehicle life. + Respond to service calls as required, providing timely support for vehicles that are disabled or require on-site attention. + Create accurate work orders in SAP and ensure all working times, tasks, and parts used are properly logged in the system. + Pull stock parts from inventory as needed and document usage to maintain accurate inventory records. + Maintain tools, equipment, and the work area in a clean, organized condition and complete cleanup before the end of each shift. + Participate in required safety training and strictly adhere to all safety policies, procedures, DOT , and OSHA regulations. + Support operations departments by clearly communicating vehicle out-of-service status and expected downtime. + Assist with troubleshooting and repair of airbrake systems and related components as needed. + Use pallet jacks or forklifts, when required, to move parts or equipment safely within the shop and warehouse environment. Essential Skills + Hands-on experience in diesel maintenance and repair for medium- and heavy-duty fleet vehicles. + Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines and related systems. + Ability to perform comprehensive preventive maintenance on a variety of fleet vehicles. + Mechanical and technical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills. + Familiarity with fleet maintenance operations and shop procedures. + Ability to accurately create and update work orders in computer systems such as SAP . + Understanding of DOT and OSHA regulations related to fleet maintenance and shop safety. + Capability to maintain tools and work areas in a clean and organized manner. + Ability to communicate clearly with operations and other departments regarding vehicle status and downtime.
