Diesel Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and heavy machinery, including semi-trucks, buses, and construction equipment. You will use specialized diagnostic software and a wide range of hand tools to perform preventative maintenance, overhaul engines, and repair complex systems such as transmissions, air brakes, and hydraulics. Responsibilities Inspect diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. Diagnose problems using specialized diagnostic software, testing equipment, and hand tools. Perform preventative maintenance on diesel engines and related systems to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Repair and overhaul diesel engines, including replacing or rebuilding components as needed. Service and repair complex systems such as transmissions, air brakes, and hydraulic systems. Troubleshoot diesel engine performance issues and implement effective solutions. Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed on each vehicle or piece of equipment. Follow established safety procedures and best practices when working with heavy machinery and tools. Use appropriate tools, equipment, and diagnostic technology to ensure high-quality and efficient repairs. Communicate clearly with supervisors or team members about repair needs, timelines, and equipment status. Essential Skills Proven experience working as a diesel mechanic with diesel-powered vehicles or heavy machinery. Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. Hands-on experience with diesel engines, including inspection, maintenance, and repair. Ability to service and repair hydraulic systems on heavy equipment. Knowledge of electrical systems related to diesel engines and vehicle components. Familiarity with maintaining and repairing transmissions, air brakes, and other complex systems. Proficiency using specialized diagnostic software and tools for diesel engines. Skilled in using a variety of hand tools and shop equipment safely and effectively. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with semi-trucks, buses, and construction equipment. Background in preventative maintenance programs for fleets or heavy equipment. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and service documentation. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Lexington, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $65000.00/yr.
