In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered tow trucks and heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will keep our fleet operational, reliable, and ready to respond swiftly to roadside assistance needs. This position offers an exciting opportunity for mechanics with a passion for heavy-duty vehicle repair and a commitment to excellence. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive diagnostics on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, air brake systems, and electrical components using schematics and diagnostic tools. Conduct repairs and maintenance on tow trucks, including engine repairs, brake systems, shocks & struts, wheel alignments, and HVAC systems. Fabricate custom parts or modifications using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication techniques to meet specific repair needs. Repair and service heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, farm machinery, industrial equipment, and tractor-trailers as required. Utilize automotive diagnostics to identify issues accurately and efficiently troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on various vehicle types. Perform routine vehicle maintenance including tire service, wheel alignments, suspension checks, and fluid replacements to ensure safety standards are met. Maintain detailed records of all repairs performed, parts used, and inspections completed while adhering to safety protocols and quality standards. Qualifications Proven mechanic experience with a focus on diesel engine repair and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance. Strong knowledge of schematics for electrical systems and hydraulic diagrams; ability to read technical manuals confidently. Skilled in fabrication techniques including welding, soldering, assembly of parts, and metalworking. Proficient with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and service technology used in automotive repair. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in physically demanding environments regularly. Excellent mechanical knowledge covering transmissions, air brakes, alignment procedures, shocks & struts, HVAC systems, suspension components, and tire service. Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators or cranes is a plus; familiarity with Caterpillar machinery is advantageous.
Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
