Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable Semi Truck & Trailer Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Class 6-8 commercial trucks and a variety of trailer types to ensure safe and efficient fleet operations. The ideal candidate brings strong diesel engine knowledge, hands-on experience with trailer systems, and a commitment to quality workmanship. Key Responsibilities Diagnostics & Repair Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, and drive lines Perform electrical system diagnostics using electronic diagnostic tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link, JPRO) Inspect, repair, and replace brake systems including air brakes, ABS, and slack adjusters Service and repair HVAC, fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems on trailers and specialty equipment Preventive Maintenance Conduct scheduled PM services including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid flushes Perform DOT pre-trip and annual inspections in compliance with FMCSA regulations Maintain accurate service records in fleet management software Identify and communicate potential issues to supervisors before they become costly failures Trailer Service Inspect and repair trailer frames, flooring, doors, and lighting systems Service landing gear, kingpins, fifth wheel components, and glad hands Weld minor structural repairs on trailers as needed Inspect, repair, and replace brake systems including air brakes, ABS, and slack adjusters Shop & Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials (oils, fluids, batteries) Assist fellow technicians and apprentices with complex repairs Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical school training preferred Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience as a diesel mechanic or truck/trailer technician Strong knowledge of Class 6-8 trucks (Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, International) Proficiency with air brake systems and DOT inspection standards Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals Must possess own hand tools sufficient for the position Valid driver's license; CDL preferred or ability to obtain Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in varying weather conditions Preferred Qualifications ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification (T1-T8) Welding certification or proficiency (MIG/stick) HVAC certification Physical & Work Environment Requirements Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces Frequent exposure to grease, oil, diesel fuel, exhaust, and outdoor elements Must be able to operate shop equipment including lifts, jacks, and air tools safely Work is performed primarily in a shop setting with occasional roadside service calls Equal Opportunity Employer Statement Schlipp Scrap Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
