Job Description
The Macon R-1 School District is seeking a qualified and dependable Bus Mechanic to join our transportation team. This position is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing district buses and other vehicles to ensure safe and reliable transportation for students.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent
Candidate to posess or obtain inspection license
Valid Missouri Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements
Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of, and proficiency at automotive mechanical repair including diesels Possess extensive knowledge of all mechanical and electrical parts pertaining to a school bus and have the ability to repair it
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of all vehicles used by Macon R-I and Consortium School Districts.
Is responsible for the installation of safety equipment used by the school district's transportation system.
Keeps accurate, current records on the maintenance schedule for all district vehicles used by the pupil transportation system.
Keeps the tools and machinery of the transportation system in a safe, organized manner.
Makes recommendations regarding purchase of spare parts and necessary repair of vehicles.
Periodically inspects all vehicles to ensure they are in proper working order.
Establishes and maintains a systematic program to keep transportation vehicles clean.
Establishes and maintains a systematic program for routine vehicle maintenance.
Assumes other duties as assigned.
Assures that buses conform to Highway Patrol standards.
Performs minor auto body repair using bondo, fiberglass, and paint.
Performs emergency road service to disabled buses. Drives replacement bus to site and calls for wrecker service, when needed.
Serves as an emergency substitute bus driver, bus aide, or crossing guard if an appropriate substitute cannot be secured. Performs duties and function of these positions, and maintains all licenses and certification required to perform these duties.
Promptly reports any abuse of buses and or equipment to the director of transportation
Attends appropriate workshops and training programs as assigned by the director.

Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system,
Ability to write reports and correspondence consistent with the duties of this position. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints. Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork.
Ability to learn and properly utilize various machines/equipment especially as machines/equipment are upgraded.
Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position. Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to operate a computer, utilizing the district's standard software products plus any additional software that may be unique to the position.
Ability to diagnose and locate mechanical and electrical malfunctions and defects. General knowledge of hydraulic and air brake systems, steering systems, electrical systems, transmission and differential systems. General knowledge of the principals and theories of the internal combustion engine. Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures.
Terms of Employment:
Full time, 8 hours per day / 260 days per year
Salary to be established by the Superintendent.
