This is a full-time, 12-month position. The faculty member must instruct assigned courses in accordance with NCCCS curriculum standards and course descriptions in addition to the standards and guidelines set forth by the program accreditation entity. Courses may be scheduled for day, evening, or weekends and in FTCC's service area high schools. FTCC views faculty members as learning-facilitators who actively engage students in the learning process. This includes ensuring instruction aligns with industry standards, safety regulations, college policies and procedures, and the operational needs of the program. Hands-on experience with the methods, materials, tools, equipment, and practices of the diesel mechanics trade, the occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the diesel technician repair. Practical knowledge in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in the Diesel Technician trade. Maintain relevant knowledge in the discipline and incorporate innovative and creative instructional techniques in the classroom. Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction. Provide general classroom and clinical lab instruction both online and in a traditional setting according to the standards set by the department. Teach face-to-face classes that may include days, evenings, and/or weekends both on and off campus. Advise and register students who are in the program or aspire to be in the program. Assist Department Chair and Dean in the design and update of course syllabi, curriculum review, revision, and development. Prepare course materials, deliver lectures, facilitate lab sessions, and lead practical activities on campus and/or work sites. Teach basic principles, equipment operation, and safety protocols aligned with industry standards Assess student learning through class participation, written assessments, hands-on demonstrations, and competency evaluations Collaborate with local employers for needs assessments. Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains relevance and consistency with industry best practices. Implement and accurately maintain a system to track student progress and assess their skills and abilities Monitor student performance on a regular basis and provide feedback within a reasonable timeframe to students Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, academic progress, certifications, and compliance documentation in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements. Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning. Maintain instructional areas and ensure proper operation of classroom and laboratory equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary preventive and routine maintenance promptly. Ensure the safety of instructors and students by working with theFTCC OSHA
Services Coordinator to ensure compliance with all OSHA and DOT requirements. Maintain cleanliness of all instructional areas. Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient laboratory environment. Ensure all instructors and students adhere to the safety policies and procedures in place. Maintain training equipment, tools, and facilities to ensure a safe, functional, and industry-relevant learning environment. Assist with the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, equipment, and supplies, and recommend these resources to the Department Chair and/or Dean of Corporate and Industry Training. Support student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts by providing mentorship, career guidance, and industry insight. Recruit mentor, and evaluate qualified part-time instructors (in conjunction with other full-time faculty members in the discipline, as appropriate). Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established templates, providing students with appropriate information concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria. Remain current on guidelines and procedures for state and national certification requirements. Create a student-centered environment for on-campus and off-campus students. Work toward operational excellence through continuous improvement of processes and engagement with advisory committees. Implement innovative strategies to meet student needs and improve processes. Collaborate with program leadership, workforce partners, and industry stakeholders to ensure curriculum alignment with current workforce needs and standards. Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and program leadership. Abide by college-wide policies and procedures regarding classroom conduct. Interact with co-workers and perform tasks with the highest level of integrity. Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and the learning community. Promote and support FTCC's mission, vision, and values, and support coworkers in the most positive manner. Recognize and respect the variety of experiences and contributions represented by all students, employees, and community members; encourage a learning environment where everyone is supported and valued for their unique perspectives and experiences; and foster the participation of all members of our diverse communities. Stay updated on industry developments and standards, and incorporate best practices into training Support of student organizations and other campus activities. Participate in faculty committees and other activities, as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate Degree in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent, Trade certifications will be considered in lieu of degree At least three (5) years of work experience in the trade Organized and possess multitasking skills Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication skills Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Maintain high levels of confidentiality, credibility and professionalism If selected for hire, applicant must be willing to complete Commercial Driver's License Program (CDL) - Class "A" course within 90 days and Class "B" w/P, thereafter. Preferred Requirements Hold a CDL Class "A" with Passenger endorsement for the last 3 years Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification Industry certifications including OSHA 30-Hour Construction, CPR/AED/First Aid, Work Zone Flagger Certification, and NCCER Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP). Prior experience teaching at the community college or four-year college.
