Diesel Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of heavy equipment and diesel-powered trucks used in construction and land clearing operations. You will perform both routine maintenance and complex repairs on-site and in the shop, ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably, and with minimal downtime. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, solid experience with diesel engines and hydraulics, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with equipment operators and supervisors. Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, and a fleet of trucks. Perform routine maintenance services including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, greasing, and other scheduled tasks. Inspect equipment for wear, damage, and safety concerns, and recommend appropriate repairs or adjustments. Complete preventative maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime and extend service life. Repair and maintain hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, and undercarriages on heavy equipment and trucks. Perform both shop-based and field-based repairs, traveling to job sites as needed to support operations. Maintain accurate and detailed service and repair records for all equipment worked on. Ensure all work complies with company safety standards and applicable OSHA regulations. Coordinate with operators and supervisors to prioritize repairs and maintenance activities based on operational needs. Assist with equipment setup and mobilization to and from job sites to support construction and land clearing projects. Essential Skills At least 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in construction or land clearing environments. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, including diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance. Proficiency with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting leaks, failures, and performance issues. Experience working with electrical systems on heavy equipment and trucks. Hands-on experience with heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, and trucks. Ability to diagnose mechanical issues quickly and accurately and determine effective repair strategies. Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple repair tasks. Valid driver's license to travel between the shop and field locations as required. Commitment to following safety procedures and adhering to OSHA and company safety standards. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in heavy-duty repair and equipment maintenance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on equipment brands such as Caterpillar (CAT), Deere, Komatsu, or similar is preferred. Experience in construction or land clearing operations is beneficial. Familiarity with pneumatics and hydraulic service work on heavy equipment. Experience performing preventive maintenance programs for mixed fleets. Ability to communicate clearly with operators and supervisors regarding repair status and equipment needs. Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate service, repair, and maintenance records. Comfort working with a diverse fleet of equipment and adapting to different makes and models. Dress will be practical and suitable for mechanical and field work, with appropriate protective gear and safety equipment used as required. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Midland, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $81120.00/yr.
