Job Description

Our client is a leading environmental and geotechnical consulting firm providing innovative solutions. Our field operations depend on reliable, well-maintained equipment to support drilling, sampling, and site investigation services. Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to manage the inspection, maintenance, and repair of our fleet of trucks, trailers, and drilling equipment. This role is critical to ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and uptime for field crews. The ideal candidate has strong diagnostic abilities, experience with diesel engines and hydraulic systems, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel-powered trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment Maintain and service drill rigs, compressors, generators, and related field equipment Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment life Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs as needed Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and maintenance schedules Ensure all equipment meets safety, compliance, and regulatory standards Manage parts inventory, order supplies, and coordinate with vendors as needed Collaborate with field staff and operations managers to prioritize repairs and maintenance needs Assist in equipment inspections, audits, and fleet management planning Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, or similar role Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment repair Experience working with construction, drilling, or geotechnical equipment preferred Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data Valid driver's license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain) Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair priorities Preferred Qualifications Experience maintaining drill rigs or geotechnical/environmental field equipment Welding and fabrication skills Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements and fleet compliance Technical certification in diesel mechanics or related field Key Competencies Detail-oriented with a strong focus on safety Dependable and responsive to urgent repair needs Strong organizational and time management skills Effective communication with both field and office personnel Hands-on, solution-focused mindset Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work performed in shop and outdoor field environments Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks Exposure to varying weather conditions and mechanical hazards What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision) Paid time off and holidays Opportunities for training, certification, and career growth Stable, team-oriented work environment
