Position Description The Mechanical/Diesel Service & Upfit Technician performs equipment installations/upfitting and assists with advanced fabrication and wiring. Ensures quality workmanship while meeting all safety and compliance standards. Major Areas of Responsibility Perform intermediate-level welding and fabrication, including modifying or fabricating parts as needed Assist with installation of cranes and related components Install components such as creep drive systems, PTO systems, hi-rail gear, and hydraulic systems Demonstrate intermediate knowledge in pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic systems Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics with guidance Complete most repairs within reasonably allowed job times Perform DOT, FRA, and crane inspections with competency Communicate effectively with engineering and service personnel to support repairs and installations Maintain acceptable discipline and adherence to all safety standards Complete all duties and responsibilities assigned to shop attendants Minimum Qualifications & Skills High school diploma or equivalent required 2-3 years proven welding and fabrication ability 2-3 years basic hydraulic and D/C electrical system understanding Ability to work independently on routine installs Strong focus on safety and quality OTE forklift certification (on the job training) Be able to perform FMCSA and FRA required inspections Applicants are required to provide their own basic tool set. If an applicant does not have tools, Omaha Track will contribute up to $2,000 toward the purchase of tools to be repaid through payroll deductions.
