Truck Technician Compensation:
$35.00 - $50.00 per hour, based on experience Position Summary Lois Yoder Trucking is seeking a skilled and motivated Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Hicksville, Ohio. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of 23 diesel trucks, ensuring all vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT regulations. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with diesel engine systems, electrical and wiring diagnostics, and mechanical rebuilds. Responsibilities General Truck Maintenance Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all diesel trucks in the fleet Conduct routine inspections of engines, transmissions, brakes, and suspension systems Change oil, filters, fluids, belts, and other wear components per manufacturer specifications Maintain accurate service logs and vehicle maintenance records Diesel Engine Repair & Rebuilds Diagnose and repair diesel engine issues using diagnostic tools and equipment Perform full engine and component rebuilds including heads, pistons, and injectors Rebuild or replace transmissions, differentials, and drivetrain components as needed Inspect and repair fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust, and emissions equipment Electrical & Wiring Diagnose and repair electrical faults, shorts, and wiring issues throughout the vehicle Troubleshoot lighting systems, trailer connectors, and cab electronics Read and interpret wiring schematics and electrical diagrams Repair or replace harnesses, connectors, sensors, and control modules Safety & Compliance Ensure all vehicles meet DOT safety and inspection standards Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment needing immediate attention Keep the shop clean, organized, and compliant with safety protocols Daily Duties Inspect trucks before and after trips for mechanical issues Prioritize and complete repair orders efficiently to minimize vehicle downtime Communicate with management regarding vehicle status and parts needed Order and track parts inventory for fleet maintenance Test drive repaired vehicles to verify proper operation Assist with roadside repairs or emergency service as needed Required Skills & Qualifications Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy truck technician Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, components, and repair procedures Proficiency in electrical system diagnostics and wiring repair Experience with engine and drivetrain rebuilds Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins Proficient with diagnostic software and hand/power tools Knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle compliance standards Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Preferred Qualifications ASE certifications (Medium/Heavy Truck) preferred Experience with major truck brands (Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, or similar) CDL (Commercial Driver's License) a plus, but not required Experience using fleet maintenance management software Work Environment This position is based in a shop environment in Hicksville, Ohio. The role requires standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods. You will work with heavy machinery, tools, and equipment. The work environment is fast-paced and requires physical stamina and a strong safety mindset.
